Rainforest Gold: Slot Overview

According to The World Counts website, in the year 2000, half of the world's rainforest had been wiped out, and by 2100, if the current rate of deforestation continues, it'll all be gone. Compounding the sadness is the fact that millions of species on Earth have their home in the rainforest - where will they go? It's weird how horrific stats like that can just bounce off sometimes, but think about our world with no rainforest, with countless species extinct, humans spreading inexorably across the planet, constructing farms, malls, highways, ever-consuming, ever-insatiable, unstoppably ploughing on at increasing speeds headfirst into a cataclysm of our own making.

And with that, we plunge into NetEnt's online slot Rainforest Gold, a jolly nature game which celebrates this precious, shrinking ecosystem. In this one, players are treated to stone ruins, flowing waterways, flowers, trees, animals - the works. It's a game that could have easily come from Red Tiger as much as NetEnt, a phenomenon we've commented on before, as the two partner studios continue to strengthen their mutualistic relationship like pistol shrimps and gobies.

Spinning amidst a vine-twisted frame is Rainforest Gold's gaming grid, where 5 reels hold 4 rows of symbols each and are covered by 30 winning lines. The rainforest hike begins by selecting a stake of 10 c up to $/€10 per game round, and there are no gambling extras such as ante bets or feature buys. The math model is a medium-high volatile one, with a default RTP of 96.07%.

More vines have twisted their way around Rainforest Gold's 10 to A card rank low pays, while its high pays are a lizard, a bird, a hippo, a gorilla, and a tiger. Magnificent beasts. A winning 5 OAK combination awards 5 to 12.5 times the bet when made up of royals or 20 to 50 times the bet when 5 matching animal premiums hit. Wild symbols appear anywhere on the reels. Wilds substitute for any regular pay symbols.

Rainforest Gold: Slot Features

Rainforest Gold slot - free spins

Collecting coins to trigger a pick me bonus and free spins with a win multiplier is Rainforest Gold's feature set.

Coin Symbol & Progress Bar

Coins are non-paying symbols that appear anywhere on the reels in the base game. Only one coin may appear at a time. Coins are collected when they land by the progress bar. The progress bar sits above the reels. It takes 20 collected coins to fill the bar, and when this occurs, the Wild Treasure Bonus is activated, then the progress is reset.

Wild Treasure Bonus

When triggered, 5 chests appear on the screen and players click one. The possible rewards from a picked chest are 5x, 10x, 15x, 30x, or 50x the bet.

Free Spins

Hitting scatters on reels 1, 3, and 5 awards 15 free spins with a Blazing Multiplier feature active for the full duration. During free spins, scatters and coins do not appear on the reels. On each free spin, a Blazing Multiplier of x2, x3, or x5 is revealed and applied to any wins on the current spin.

Rainforest Gold: Slot Verdict

So what should we call these guys now? Net-Tiger, Red-Ent, because the two outfits seem to be blending further and further into each other's pockets, like pets looking like their owners, or is it owners looking like their pets? Not saying NetEnt and Red Tiger have a kinky slave-master thing going on, just their games are becoming harder and harder to tell apart from each other. It's kind of cute in some ways, a little sad in others. It's getting to the point where the most reliable way of identifying a NetEnt release is if it's a remake of an older slot. Rainforest Gold is not, and really, it could have come from anyone, lacking the major spark that makes, or used to make, a NetEnt slot stand out from the pack.

As for Rainforest Gold in action, there's not much to say. The base game flows on, every so often, completing the progress bar, triggering the Wild Treasure Bonus pick. One time, a chest revealed an x50, great; other times, lesser prizes, oh well. Later on, you might get free spins, with their random, comparatively low-level multiplier on each spin. It's hardly a heavy-duty arsenal of features, but Rainforest Gold is still able to knock out wins of up to 5,085.1x the bet, which was surprisingly high, all things considered. It was tough to envisage the game reaching those heights, that Blazing Multiplier will have to blaze pretty brightly.

Have you ever watched a nature documentary and been so touched to the core by the beauty and fragility of planet Earth you've felt a desire to help out, in some way, not sure how, but… in some way? Yeah, didn't get that playing Rainforest Gold, which came across as jolly and cheerful, yet small like a bruised lotus petal falling into a river and being washed away into oblivion, forgotten.
