Secrets of Cleopatra Infinity Reels: Slot Overview

Malta based developer PG Soft (or Pocket Games Soft), has been busy releasing slots on a regular basis, racking up over 60 in their first five years of business. Like competitor Hacksaw Gaming, their focus is on mobile gaming, specifically to ‘revolutionize mobile app gamification.’ A lofty goal. One way of possibly achieving it is by licensing ReelPlay’s Infinity Reels mechanic for their Egyptian themed slot titled Secrets of Cleopatra.

They weren’t the first company to launch a licensed Infinity Reels slot though. That honour fell to Boomerang Studios, in their patchy slot Crystal Wolf. Secrets of Cleopatra displays PG Soft’s design talents by being an attractive game – on mobile. On a desktop, with all of the extra space on offer, it’s not quite as appealing. The game and menu options have been squeezed to look like a mobile device, making it small, with a ton of dead space left over. This is more a report back than a critique since PG Soft are clear from the outset mobile gaming is their focus.

The default 3-reel grid has a nice solid look to it, partly form the stone columns on either side, partly from the quality of the graphics. A ticker-tape above the reels displays things like rules, and the overall view is compactly well placed. The audio is top quality as well. Being an Egyptian themed slot, the soundtrack is a familiar Arabic groover. You can imagine dancing girls and slaves serving up exotic delicacies, enhanced by a chesty image of Cleopatra that greets players on the home screen.

As mentioned, the game is playable on any device; the optimal experience being on mobiles. Hitting the coins icon above the spin button opens up a wagering menu where players can alter the bet size from 0.01 – 0.1, and bet level from 1-10. This produces total stakes ranging from 10 p/c to £/€10. The stats are solid too, such as an impressive RTP of 96.74%, and volatility rated very high which suits the snowballing mechanics/features. Massive potential is on tap, though how achievable it might be is the question.

Twelve blocks drop onto the grid with each spin, including a number of lifeless blocker tiles. In total, there are 10 regular symbols in the paytable – 6 royals (9-A), plus Ankhs, an Eye of Horus, birds, and Cleopatra. Each individual premium symbol is worth 0.3 – 0.5 times the total bet. Landing a win is a little different than usual. Five or more identical symbols are needed from the first reel onwards to form a combination. The value of each symbol in the combination is added up, and the win multiplier applied. For example, five Cleopatras on the first two reels is worth 2.5x the bet. The golden pyramid symbol is wild, substituting for any of the regular pays. It does not have a value of its own and appears on any reel except the first.

Secrets of Cleopatra Infinity Reels: Slot Features

Secrets of Cleopatra Infinity Reels – free spins

The central feature in Secrets of Cleopatra is the Infinity Reels system, which works in conjunction with win multipliers, and is capped off by triggered free spins. At any stage of the game, if the rightmost reel improves or is included in a winning combination, then another reel is added on the right. Reels keep being added as long as these conditions are met, without limit. As reels rack up, a tracker above them keeps tabs on how many winning symbols are being used.

At the start of any main game spin, the win multiplier sits at x1. For each new reel added to the grid, the multiplier increases in increments of 1. When the winning combination ends, the multiplier is applied to the win and resets back to x1 as do the reels.

The last symbol to cover is the blue/golden scarab scatter, which may appear anywhere on the reels. If the scatter lands on the rightmost reel, another reel will also be added. When 3 appear simultaneously, 10 free spins are awarded, with 2 more spins added for each scatter collected over three.

Next, players can either collect the free spins won, or gamble to increase the win multiplier increment. A wheel spins, and if it lands on a green segment, the multiplier increment increases by 1, up to +4. However, if the pointer lands on any other segment, the free spins feature is voided. During free spins, the multiplier starts at x1 and increases by the applicable increment value. This time it does not reset back to x1 between spins. Last bit of good news, free spins can also be retriggered.

Secrets of Cleopatra Infinity Reels: Slot Verdict

For a pocket-size Infinity Reels driven game, Secrets of Cleopatra is about as good as it gets. PG Soft has crafted a nice looking slot, with some excellent stats to back up the gameplay. It is a little pointless to play on a desktop, where you lose a lot of the experience since the background image is just a blurred place holder. You don’t get the lush scrolling visuals of ReelPlay’s own games like Odin Infinity Reels for example, but that’s the trade-off PG Soft has gone for.

Visually it might not compete as well, though when it comes to gameplay and the rest, Secrets of Cleopatra doesn’t feel like its missing anything. Well, maybe the 888x jackpot ReelPlay often try to work into theirs. However, players might not even notice its absence when learning PG Soft claim wins up to 100,000 times the bet are possible. Sure, the reels might be infinite, but you might need infinity +1 to reach such a high figure. Or, brave the free spins wheel several times to score the multiplier with the +4 increments. No mean feat.

All up, Secrets of Cleopatra is a great game to blast on your mobile device if you like a bit of reel expanding action. It’s not quite the visual banquet ReelPlay’s more recent versions are, but that doesn’t stop it reproducing all the thrills and winning potential on a smaller format.

Good

Secrets of Cleopatra Infinity Reels fails to add anything that hasn’t already been tried with the mechanic, but for some highly volatile, big potential, extended reel action on a mobile it’s alright.
