Sevens High Ultra: Slot Overview

Sevens High Ultra sees its maker Quickspin revisit and remaster a slot they released back in 2015, titled Sevens High. If you missed it, Sevens High was a glitzy, fruity, Vegas-style slot with a catchy respin feature that could turn its premium symbols wild, much like Quickspin's hit Big Bad Wolf. Sevens High Ultra keeps all these things while adding a new Ultra mode where the going might be tougher, but the potential rewards are greater.

If you have played the original, you'll be happy to know Sevens High Ultra is as glitzy as ever. Yet, even more importantly, the epic soundtrack is back, floating effortlessly from ambient to house to pounding dubstep for big win count ups. Played using a 5-reel, 25-payline reelset, what's new is the 'Ultra' button which can be switched at any time in the base game. The Wild Meter is there, too, so consecutive winning respins remain a focal point. In a world overflowing with fruit slots, Sevens High Ultra manages to mix its parts in such a way to provide a uniquely entertaining experience.

Switching between Ultra Mode and Classic Mode has no effect on stakes, which vary from 25 p/c to $/€100 per spin. What it does do is make the game more volatile, where Ultra is rated high (5/5) compared to the original's medium setting. The RTP is slightly different in both modes, too, Classic generating a value of 96.54% while Ultra's comes in at 96.06%. The benefit of Ultra mode is more scatters on the reels, bigger symbol values, and higher winning potential.

Knocking together a win occurs when at least three matching symbols land adjacent to each other on a payline from the first reel. From bottom to top, the symbols include plums, lemons, oranges, cherries, and stars as the low pays, then bells, red 7s, green sevens, and blue sevens as the mids. Landing a five-symbol combination made up of mid pay symbols is worth 3-4x the stake in Ultra Mode or 1.6-2x in Classic. The highest paying symbols are the 7s when they have been converted into wilds, worth 100x the bet for a line of five in Ultra Mode, or 20x the bet in Classic. The standard wild is worth the same as the '7' wilds, and all wilds substitute for regular symbols to help complete winning lines.

Sevens High Ultra: Slot Features

Sevens High Ultra uses the same set of features the original did, but Quickspin has juiced certain elements of them like they have to the volatility. Respins remain one of the key features and are where the majority of the RTP has been allocated. Any win activates the Wild Meter on the side of the screen and awards a Sevens High Respin. Respins continue to be awarded as long as consecutive wins keep hitting. In addition, every two consecutive wins turns a '7' symbol wild, maxing when all three of them have been converted. During the base game, a losing respin ends the feature and resets the Wild Meter back to its starting position.

In Classic Mode, landing 3 bonus symbols pays 3x the bet and activates 10 free spins. Or, if playing in Ultra Mode, 3, 4, or 5 scatters in view awards 10, 15 or 35 free spins and results in a payout of 3x, 10x, or 500x the bet. In both game modes, landing at least 3 scatters in the bonus game retriggers free spins.

When free spins are active, every two consecutive wins turns a '7' symbol wild and grants +2 free spins. What's different in the bonus round is that the Wild Meter does not reset, so activating the premium wilds early on means you've got them for the remainder of the feature.

Sevens High Ultra: Slot Verdict

You can see how players with a soft spot for classic, Vegas-style games would be excited by this remake. The original isn't looking bad for a game more than half a decade old, and Sevens High Ultra is as flashy as before, more so actually, when flipping into the more volatile mode. The good news about doing so is players don't have to pay extra to switch modes; they simply pick the one that matches their mood the best. Then, as Quickspin puts it in the blurb, 'Grab a drink and a bite to eat while you put your feet up and spin the reels.' Sounds pretty alright.

While the stakes stay the same, the RTP does dip slightly in Ultra mode, not that you can really notice the percentage difference. The two modes were distinctly different in action, though, performing the way they are described in the paytable. In a nutshell, that means more wins in Classic, bigger wins in Ultra. Ultra is for those who like to live a little further out on the edge where it is easier to slip but where the greater rewards can be found. The difference in value between the Wild symbols in the two modes is significant, where a full screen of them in Classic is worth 500x compared to 2,500x in Ultra Mode. It means Ultra now cranks the max win figure up to 6,768x the bet. If knowing the odds helps you pick a slot, this win occurred during 300 billion simulated spins.

It is nice the game lets you slip into either mode without changing the bet, so if you are in the mood for more wins or bigger wins, flip the switch, and you're there. In either, Sevens High Ultra's atmosphere is as groovy as ever, the Wild Meter hooks you with its achievement style of play, and payouts aren't shabby either. Players who liked the old Sevens High slot or glam fruit slots, in general, are in for a treat with Sevens High Ultra.
