Spinxiety: Slot Overview

Pretty much everyone likes a bit of attention, right? Cory said he likes your new haircut, Judy thinks your butt looks cute. But attention can spiral out of control into the heavy world of obsession, which can cause the obsessor to do dark, destructive things. It's this psychological phenomenon AvatarUX explores in its online slot thriller Spinxiety, 'where your biggest fan just won't take no for an answer.' Sounds ominous, but Spinxiety skims the surface of its subject matter while putting the thrill focus on features such as sticky wild multipliers.

At a guess, it looks like Spinxiety takes place at the protagonist's house while they're trying to casually mind their business and ignore the creepy guy constantly staring at them from the reels. Free spins are worse because the creepy guy is literally peeping in through a crack in the door. Or is the game located outside a house which the creepy guy has broken into? Not totally sure, and while creepy is the vibe, Spinxiety isn't as viscerally, emotionally impactful as something like Mental 2 or Disturbed. In saying that, though, Spinxiety is the antithesis to all the happy, bright, fruit, joker, and candy slots flooding the market, meaning AvatarUX has designed a game that sets a very different train of thought in motion than slots such as CherryPop Burst or Pixel Paws.

Spinxiety slot - base game

In the base game, Spinxiety is played on a 6x3 grid with 729 ways to win, which expands during the bonus round. Players can stake 10c to $/€300 per spin, and when using the ante bet, the base stake is raised by 50%, doubling the chance of triggering a bonus. Hopefully, you like volatility, because Spinxiety is rated 'super high', and of the three RTP values, 95.97% is the most preferable.

Ransom note cut-out letters J, Q, K, and A are the low pay symbols, awarding 0.8x the bet for a 6-of-a-kind hit. The highs are the odd, bespectacled, obsessive character depicted in five different outfits, none of them looking particularly wholesome. Hitting a 6 OAK high pay win awards 0.9x to 1x the bet. When wilds are in play, they're able to substitute all of the regular pay symbols.

Spinxiety: Slot Features

Spinxiety gets its dread on, features wise, through its Creeping Wilds, bonus game where Door Knock and Go Away can trigger, as well as feature buys from the Xpress.

Creeping Wilds

In the base game, Creeping Wilds may land on the bottom row of certain reels. If there is a win involving a Creeping Wild, the player is granted a respin, up to a maximum of 3. At the start of each respin, there is a chance that wilds expand upwards one position in size or have their multiplier increase by +1. Both can happen at the same time.

Bonus Game

When landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters, players win 5, 6, 7, or 8 free spins, respectively. In the bonus round, the gaming area grows to four rows high, with 4,096 ways to win, and wilds that land are sticky. Wilds can also grow to spread across their reels or increase their multiplier. At any time in the round, there is a chance the Door Knock feature triggers, multiplying the multipliers on existing wilds by x2 or x3. On the final free spin, there is a chance to instantly collect the max win if the Go Away symbol lands on the grid. Hitting a scatter during the feature awards +1 free spin.

Xpress

At the Xpress feature buy section, players may activate Head Start for 5x the bet to guarantee at least one wild lands. A 5 free spins bonus round can be bought for 75x or 8 free spins with a higher chance of landing wilds for 300x the bet.

Spinxiety: Slot Verdict

Spinxiety is a grimmer slot than AvatarUX usually makes, so it took a bit of time to catch the vibe and figure out what it was trying to be. The studio could have gone a bit deeper into the subject matter, but to be fair, how deep do gamblers really want to dive into the topic of obsessive stalkers? Probably not anywhere truly sinister, so it's good that AvatarUX was brave enough to utilise a theme it hasn't used before in a non-overly sinister way. Some may find Spinxiety too tame for their tastes, but on the whole, a fairly decent balance between shock and comfort has been struck. In saying that, a bit more shock, or a bit more variety in background setting between base and bonus rounds might have given the game more gripping depth.

It's quite clever that the theme links to the features too, such as the way wilds can creep upwards to invade the reels. There's not much else happening in the base game besides Creeping Wilds, which means they might get tedious while waiting for free spins to eventuate. Again, Spinxiety is another AvatarUX slot which doesn't provide entirely clear information about its features, so some of them have to be pieced together by trial and error. Free spins, for example, lack clarity. The studio's website even mentions that when wilds grow to fill an entire reel, they unlock extra rows, but this didn't occur in the demo when one reel was covered in wilds. Maybe all applicable reels have to be filled with wilds to expand? Plus, there is mention of 46,656 ways to win on the rules page. It's all a puzzle which could have been cleared up with greater explanation in the paytable. What we do know is that in free spins, wilds are sticky, can grow, bear multipliers, and are able to cause a lot of repeat win action when the bonus is being productive.

At full capacity, Spinxiety is able to knock out hits up to a win cap of 20,000x the bet. So there is definite potential here for lucky players with an interest in sticky multiplier wild action held in a darker-than-normal setting.

Bigwinboard Summary

Spinxiety offers solid wild-based action with a dark theme, although its relatively slow-paced base game may not appeal to everyone.
