Ever felt confused playing Moon Princess, Gemix or Reactoonz? Here’s a game so complicated it needs to start off with an instruction video
All winning symbols contribute to the Sugar Rush Meter
3 types of Wilds: Regular Wilds, Striped Wilds and Dotted Wilds
Sweet Alchemy Introduction
Sweet Alchemy is a video slot produced by Play’n GO and is played on a cascading 5×5 grid. The game has 1 fixed payline and players can bet from 0.10 to 100 EUR.
Play’n GO has been very successful with it’s cartoonish, cascading type slots, such as Moon Princess, Gemix and Reactoonz, and Sweet Alchemy is next in line in that same category to hit the casinos. Some players find these slots to be too complicated and confusing and might prefer more traditional slots, but the overall success can’t be denied, not the least amongst casino streamers.
Players who are used to the cascading type slots from Play’n GO will likely instantly feel at home when they see the setup and the meter, which here is called the Sugar Rush Meter. It works much in the same way as the meter in Moon Princess just to take an example. Every winning symbol will contribute to the Sugar Rush Meter, which resets at the end of each game round. As you fill the meter, special Wilds will be created on the reels.
One interesting aspect of this game is that it features 3 types of Wild symbols.
- Regular Wild replaces any symbol like a traditional wild.
- Striped Wilds remove the entire row or column when part of a win.
- Dotted Wilds remove all instances of a random symbol when part of a win.
There are 4 high paying symbols represented by a star (only available in the free round), heart, nut (?) and a pastille. The low paying symbols are made out of a cube, bean, cone and a doughnut.
There is no bonus or scatter symbol, instead the free play is triggered by filling the Sugar Rush Meter with 38 symbols.
Sweet Alchemy is medium variance slot with an RTP of 96.5%, but this can be much lower on some casinos so always check the helpfile to see what RTP version you are playing.[table “24” not found /]
Sweet Alchemy Features
Clusters of 4 or more alike symbols create wins and contribute to the Sugar Rush Meter. If the Sugar Rush Meter is filled with 6 symbols in a game round, 2 Regular Wilds replace 2 symbols on the grid – these act as any other symbol to create wins and contribute to the Sugar Rush Meter.
If the Sugar Rush Meter is filled with 13 symbols in a game round, 2 Striped Wilds replace 2 symbols on the grid – these act as any other symbol to create wins and when they do, they also remove all symbols on the same row or column. All removed symbols including the Striped Wilds contribute to the Sugar Rush Meter.
If the Sugar Rush Meter is filled with 25 symbols in a game round, 2 Dotted Wilds replace 2 random symbols on the grid – these act as any other symbol to create wins and, when they do, they also remove all instances of a randomly chosen symbol, from the grid.
Fill the Sugar Rush Meter with 38 symbols in a game round to trigger the Mix the Elixir Free Round featuring 3 Candy Spells. Every 3 additional symbols collected after this in a game round will award an additional Candy Spell for the free round, up to a maximum of 7 Candy Spells.
The Mix the Elixir free round is played on a 9×9 grid. The aim of the free round is to complete the collection to trigger the Elixir of Power bonus and win along the way. The Alchemist will conjure Candy Spells that will help players achieve this. Symbols will drop in and wins/cascades will occur as normal. When no more wins are present, the first Candy Spell will play out. The sequence of cascades will then play out again, before the second Candy Spell occurs. The free round concludes when all Candy Spells have played out. The Candy Spells consist of:
- Mixed Candy – The symbols on the grid are shuffled to potentially create new wins.
- Sweet Surprise – 7-12 wild symbols (of any kind) appear on random positions. Even if the wild symbols are not part of winning combinations, their remove effect is still triggered.
- Sugar Bombs – 7-15 normal symbols are randomly selected and destroyed.
During the Free Round, players will be challenged to collect a certain quantity of 2 different symbols. There are 3 levels to the collection. Completing the first Level will trigger the Elixir of Power Bonus when the free round ends. Completing Level 2 will improve the prizes available in the Elixir of Power bonus. Completing Level 3 will improve the prizes again. In the Elixir of Power bonus game players must uncover chocolate squares to reveal magic elixirs until they find 3 that match. The available prizes depend on the Collection Level achieved in the Mix the Elixir Free Round and include:
|LEVEL 1||LEVEL 2||LEVEL 3|
|2x Total Bet||3x Total Bet||5x Total Bet|
|3x Total Bet||5x Total Bet||10x Total Bet|
|5x Total Bet||10x Total Bet||3x Total Win|
|2x Total Win||3x Total Win||5x Total Win|
|3x Total Win||5x Total Win||10x Total Win|
If players complete the Free Round collection they will progress along the Map when the bonus concludes. Players will be awarded a treasure chest every 3 levels on the Map, which contains a cash prize. The cash prize in the Treasure Chest is equivalent to 15% of the player’s base game winnings since the previous Chest was opened.[table “24” not found /]
Sweet Alchemy Conclusion
Visually, Sweet Alchemy looks great and reminds us more of a video game than a slot machine, something that can be a bit deceiving though if you lose yourself in the game and forget about the fact that it’s being played with your hard earned money. Something we did find a bit annoying was the constant moaning and cheering of the animated girl, but it might just be a personal thing.
The game is quite high variance and has a max exposure of 3000x, which is not bad. The game definately has some good potential.
Play’n GO is a developer with great momentum at the moment and they have managed to climb to the very top to challenge both Microgaming and NetEnt. We didn’t really embrace Reactoonz when it was first released, but have since learned to love it. This one seems too complicated at first glance but hopefullt the pieces will fall into place after a few sessions. There’s also a risk however that Play’n GO might have pushed it a bit too far here.
