Sweetie 6 is an unusual release from Pragmatic Play, although not because of its appearance. The studio has returned once again to the familiar world of sweets, gummy bears and colourful candy, this time placing everything on a 6x5 grid. What's different is the structure: there are no Free Spins, and the entire game instead revolves around unlocking Wild Multipliers through consecutive tumbles.
Wins require at least eight matching symbols anywhere on the grid, after which the winning symbols disappear and new ones tumble into place. At the beginning of each spin, one reel is randomly designated as a Candy King Reel, with every successful tumble marking another previously unmarked reel. The objective is therefore to keep the sequence going until all six reels have been activated.
Once every Candy King Reel is marked, subsequent tumbles can introduce Wild Multipliers. These substitute for regular symbols and carry values ranging from x2 to x100. When a Wild contributes to a win, its multiplier is applied to that combination, while multiple participating Wild Multipliers have their values added together. There is no separate bonus round, making extended tumble sequences and reaching this stage the main focus of the game.
Several Ante Bet options allow players to begin closer to unlocking the Wild Multipliers. Higher settings start each spin with two, three, four or five Candy King Reels already marked, with the most aggressive option costing 60x and leaving only one reel to activate. The RTP remains unchanged at 94.53% regardless of the selected setting.
The Candy King mechanic isn't a bad concept. Each successful tumble visibly moves the spin towards something more valuable, and starting with additional marked reels provides a direct way of increasing the likelihood of reaching the Wild Multipliers.
Sweetie 6 consequently feels like a strange proposition. Pragmatic has stripped away Free Spins and concentrated everything around one escalating tumble mechanic, which could have made for a refreshingly focused game. Instead, the painfully familiar candy theme leaves very little incentive to explore it for long. The Candy King system provides some entertainment when a cascade starts building momentum, but there simply isn't enough reward at the end of the chase to make Sweetie 6 particularly compelling.
