Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy: Slot Overview
Developer Red Tiger isn’t exactly massively renowned for grid slots, but there are a few playable numbers lurking in their back catalogue. One of them is the sunshine-drenched beach slot Tiki Fruit - a competent grid slot that didn’t quite have the goods to make a major impact. Several years have passed, and the crew is back for another beachside break in Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy. Some things have changed, some things have stayed the same, let’s find out which.
Graphically, the game is a bit sharper, the island location a tad dreamier. Three things immediately stand out. One, the symbol collection meters are initially missing from the side of the screen; secondly, 4 Tiki symbols sit snoring on the grid. The grid itself is the next new bit, where Red Tiger has removed a reel and a row, thereby shrinking it from an 8x10 size down to a 7x9 one. The screen feels much more open, less claustrophobic than before, so players can take in the golden sand, turquoise water, and mountainous background. Waves lap against the shore as boats buzz by, and the upbeat soundtrack provides a neatly positive vibe to lead the grid slot capering.
Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy is built to run on any device, giving players the chance to set bets as low as 10 p/c or as high as £/€20 per spin. The previous Tiki Fruits was a highly volatile game with a high hit frequency, and players can expect more of the same in the Totem Frenzy version as well. Two key stats have flipped in either direction. One which has seen a slight drop is RTP, now resting on 95.68%. Potential, however, has seen a clear increase, though it’s still nothing to go crazy over.
Using a cluster pays system, you get a win in Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy when 5 or more identical symbols connect vertically or horizontally. When this occurs, the successful cluster disappears, and symbols above fall into place, so consecutive wins on each spin are possible. When no new clusters form, the spin comes to an end.
The fruit on offer in Totem Frenzy is pretty exotic, and most aren’t what you usually associate with a classic fruit slot. Making up the lower-paying tiles are pomegranates, guava, bananas, coconuts, and dragon fruit – all staples of exotic island life. Higher value symbols include dice, stars, bells, diamonds, and 7s, worth 50 to 777 times your stake for a cluster made up of 25+ symbols.
Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy: Slot Features
During the base game, the extras revolve around the Tikis and the Totems. However, trigger free spins, and the symbol removal system from the first Tiki game is reintroduced.
The 4 Tiki masks on the grid remain locked in the same position at all times; they never move or disappear when used in a win. If a win occurs next to them, they wake up, turning into wild symbols, and the nearest Totem heads on the side of the reels become active (covered below). Wilds substitute for all paying symbols, and winning clusters can awaken more than one Tiki symbol if they are touching.
When 2 Totem heads on the same side of the grid are active, there is a chance they remove one type of fruit symbol from the reels. For the remainder of the spin, that particular symbol will not drop in to fill gaps left behind by winning clusters. Alternatively, when 2 Totems on the same side are active, they might remove all symbols on the reels, refreshing the whole screen.
If all 4 Tiki heads turn wild on a spin, then 10 Tiki Spins are awarded, with the chance this is bumped up to 15. Tiki masks stay wild throughout, and a symbol collection feature comes into play, scooping up fruit symbols when they form winning clusters. Collect 35 of a single type removes them completely from the reels for the remainder of the feature.
Lending the occasional helping hand, there is a chance when 3 Tiki symbols are wild, the 4th is randomly turned wild, thereby activating Tiki Spins.
Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy: Slot Verdict
Slight graphical improvements and gameplay tweaks mean Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy isn’t hugely different from what came before, yet the changes have enhanced the overall experience. Its biggest attraction, a laid-back island charm, remains, making Totem Frenzy as delightful as ever.
Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy isn’t a major evolution over the original, but that’s not a bad thing. The sheer fun factor of popping a ton of consecutive winning clusters off the board remains the main attraction. Pop they do, and removing all low pay symbols from free spins wasn’t the challenge you might think it would be. However, don’t expect major windfalls just because this happens, though. The absence of game-changing modifiers - multipliers, for example, means there is no way of boosting smaller-sized cluster values which tend to be quite low. After working through a significant chain of wins, the resulting payout is usually on the small side.
Having some sort of win value-boosting device on board would have pushed Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy up a level. Then again, if the game had something like a multiplier, then what makes the game so much fun, namely, blasting through loads of winning clusters, would probably have been reduced to compensate. As it is, wins can reach 3,319 times your stake, which is noticeably higher than the original, though not massive by contemporary grid slot standards.
Add it all up, and Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy isn’t a game that pushes you to your limit while holding back epic rewards for the lucky. Instead, it’s a pleasant trip to the seaside with lively characters pushing out satisfyingly lengthy win chains for so-so returns.
Tiki Fruits Totem Frenzy is a charming grid slot that doesn’t deviate too far from the original, meaning low scores on the innovation front but high on feel-good factor.
