Wild Cats Multiline (Red Tiger) Slot Review

The Wild Cats Multilinemechanic deliver some excitement, but the adventure loses its way with mediocre payouts and rather bland gameplay

  • Wild Lion feature and Royal Spins free spins game

Wild Cats Multiline (Red Tiger): Overview

Who could be better suited to bring you a feline-themed slot than a studio called Red Tiger, though sharing the same name as one of the great cats won't automatically make you one. It's not the kitty theme that caught our interest, however. Advertised as a Multiline slot, we were intrigued to learn what was so special about it that it had to be trademarked.

Described as a mechanic where "each spin may result in between 2 and 7 rows of symbols", it soon becomes clear that it's another one of those brave Megaways spin-offs that are coming in hard and fast from all directions. Here it's "Multiline", in the case of Play'n GO it was "Payways" (a reference later scrapped), and from Red Rake Gaming you'll soon hear of "Millionways". Although it has become associated with it to a great extent, slots with randomly generated rows and paylines are not entirely unique to Megaways. Other providers, such as Aristocrat, had been doing it long before Big Time Gaming came out with its celebrated mechanic. With this in mind, Red Tiger should be in the clear. Strangely, with Red Tiger being one of the studios that have acquired a Megaways license, it's slightly confusing to see them trying to come up with alternatives of their own, such as the Power Reels series, and now, the Multiline mechanic.

Wild Cats Multiline is a 6-reel slot that can produce up to 49 paylines when fully expanded. The main game is pretty much a bonus hunt with little excitement to offer. Instead, it all comes down to the free spins game where wilds initiate cascading symbol re-spins. You can use your desktop computer or mobile device as a gateway to the African Savannah and spin the reels from 10 cents to 40€ per spin.

Visually, Wild Cats Multiline is a run-of-the-mill creation that looks pretty much like any other slot that came before it using a similar theme. It does the job, but there's undoubtedly a bit of a generic feel to it. The Savannah sunset backdrop looks nice, although the water rippling, and the flock of birds occasionally flying across the screen, seem to do little to give life to the static wallpaper-like background. It probably comes down to the fact that the grass in the foreground seems unaffected by the wind, not moving one inch. In any case, on the reels you'll see five low-paying card suit symbols as well as more rewarding caracals, leopards, panthers, and tigers (neither panthers or tigers exist in Africa by the way). The latter is the top payer, giving you 6 times your stake for 6 on a full payline. The lion is the wild and substitutes for all symbols except the scatter and will give you 50 times your stake should you land a wild line.

Royal Spins free spins game in action

The main game is mostly about watching the paylines change between 4, 9, 16, 25, 36 or 49. There are no features to benefit from and no big hits to long for here, so it all comes down to the Royal Spins Free Spins feature. This comes into play when you land three or more scatter symbols simultaneously.

With a random number of free spins awarded (the more scatters, the more free spins), the wild symbol is now of central importance, so keep an eye out for it. Whenever it hits, a random symbol is completely removed from all positions and a symbol drop follows to fill the void. Up to 10 wild Lions may appear in view during one spin. At most, you can pocket up to 2000 times your stake as a result of the free spins round.

Wild Cats Multiline (Red Tiger): Verdict

Wild Cats Multiline is a mediocre game with mediocre graphics and gameplay. The main game offers little of value and the Royal Spins feature is not really capable of delivering any explosive hits, although it can add up to a decent total if you get those chain-reaction re-spins going.

The Multiline mechanic doesn't feel very innovative either, especially at this point in time when every other provider seems to be churning out Megaways clones left and right. It's not a total failure, but it can likely come to better use in a more high profile Red Tiger venture in the future.
