NetEnt's Wild-O-Tron 3000 going for a network-wide release

Wild-O-Tron 3000: Introduction
Wild-O-Tron 3000 is not a new slot. It was released as an exclusive title and made available at a few selected casinos. It totally went under the radar (for good reasons maybe?) and was eventually pulled from the market as it seems. For whatever reason, it is now making a comeback with NetEnt going for a full network-wide release.
Those of you who have played it already might not be too excited over the second wave of Wild-O-Tron's. We can say right away that it's an extremely simplistic slot with shockingly low payouts so be prepared to bring out your shame pillow when the cringe alarm rings.
When we fired up the slot, our initial reaction was a bit mixed. The visual appearance felt a bit outdated and dull, almost like something NetEnt would have created back in 2012, which maybe it was, although the look of the reel set admittedly instilled some hope of the possibility that we would get to experience innovative new features. How wrong we were.
Wild-O-Tron 3000 is a 1960s sci-fi slot with a robot theme. The story takes place in a rundown robot factory with the Wild-O-Tron machine placed to the right of the reel set and some nice 1960s era music playing in the background. It has a setup of 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 fixed pay lines. Players can bet from €0.20 all the way up to €200 on all devices. Being a low variance slot with a relatively high 96.01% RTP, players will see the payouts come at a steady flow, making it a decent wagering slot.
Wild-O-Tron 3000: Symbols & Paytable
Looking at the paytable, we see 7 types of robots of varying quality and in different conditions. It goes from a worn down WALL-E inspired robot worth 2 times the stake for 5 of a kind, up to a red class A electromagnetic creation which will yield a 15x win should you land 5 of them. All of the robots appear stacked on the reels, making it possible to land a full screen on any given spin.
The wild symbol, which appears as a round shaped object marked with a W, plays a very central role as you will see. In terms of features and gameplay, there's not much going on in the main game. You spin the wheels and hope for a decent hit or the activation of the Wild-O-Tron 3000 feature.
Wild-O-Tron 3000: Features
There's no traditional bonus to be found in this slot. Instead, the Wild-O-Tron 3000 feature will randomly activate from time to time, which happens quite frequently. When it does, the electromagnetic machine goes into a hyperactive state while calling out 'Wild-O-Tron'. The reels will now begin to slow-spin only to charge into ultra-fast mode moments later as the machine adds between 1 and 6 wilds to the reels.
It's during this feature that players can land the maximum win of 500 times the stake should you land a full screen of wild symbols.
Wild-O-Tron 3000: Conclusion
As already mentioned, Wild-O-Tron 3000 was out for some time on selected casinos but, hardly surprising, failed to make any noise. Although a very contrasting theme, it does somewhat remind us of Starburst in regard to the simple gameplay, setup of the reels and the one single bonus feature.
It's possible that some players will get something out of it and sure, unless you don't get super bored by ultra-low variance, low paying slots, it could work well for wagering purposes. Ultimately, however, it's a far cry from what's in demand these days which is explosive, high variance, mega potential slots. If you're into robot slots in particular, there are much better alternatives - Robo Jack (Microgaming) and Alien Robots (NetEnt) to name a couple.
