Yummy Wilds: Overview

Founded in 2015, Max Win Gaming is a small indie developer that has been producing games on behalf of Red Tiger. This sickly sweet release titled Yummy Wilds, however, comes courtesy of Relax Gaming’s Silverbullet platform. After a few lacklustre releases that didn’t quite grab the attention of the slots world, perhaps a new platform is the reboot Max Win Gaming need?

Yummy Wilds looks like it could be a more commercially viable slot; the candy theme is a fairly popular one after all. Yet, the setup and gameplay are as conventional as it gets. Will the final product result in a sugar rush or tooth decay? Let’s find out.

Max Win Gaming has nailed the look as far as these types of slots go. Pastel colouring abounds, and rays of candy shine like sunlight in the background while miscellaneous sweets litter the front. Several other slots immediately spring to mind, like Pragmatic's Sweet Bonanza, but Max Win Gaming has gone with a more traditional 5-reel, 3-row set up to host the action.

The reels are fairly sparse with a plain beige design framed by twisted pink trim to complete the tooth aching scene. Selecting bets sets the bonbons in motion which comes at a low roller friendly 10 p/c per spin up to 50 €/£ at the upper end. The rules are easy - land three or more matching symbols left to right to trigger a payout. There are no paylines to keep track of as winning symbols can land on any row which provides 243 ways to win.

The paytable is full of sugar-coated treats of all description, starting with 10-A boiled candies as the low pay symbols. These are followed by a gold and green sweet, blue and pink candy, a cupcake, and a super fancy cupcake. When it comes to rewards, landing combinations of the premium symbols range from 5x to 10x for five of a kind.

Helping the win rate are 5 different wilds which turn up at certain points, but for now, there is just one in the base game. This is a standard 1x1 wild which can substitute for all symbols except the scatter. During the base game and free spins, wilds only appear on reels 2, 3, and 4.

So far, each Max Win Gaming release has come with a highly volatile math model. There is no official mention about Yummy Wilds, but there is no reason to suspect anything less than a high setting here as well. Also in keeping with tradition is the sub-96% return to player rating that this developer seems to favour. With Yummy Wilds, the RTP clocks in at 95.49% so at least they are consistent. On a brighter note, the claimed max payout is a good one and surprisingly high.

Yummy Wilds: Features

Free spins with expanding wilds

It’s time to unwrap the features which revolve around the colourful and crazy Wild Dispenser. Players access this sweet making device via the bonus symbol - 3 or more anywhere on the reels award a random number of free spins up to 20. As an extra, bonus symbols also pay out 5x, 20x or 50x the stake when 3, 4, or 5 of them are in view.

A brief cut screen of the Wild Dispenser occurs before Free Spins are launched. Once it stops jiggling, the dispenser produces a candy that comes with one of four free spin modifiers:

  • Random wild - each free spin comes with a random number of wilds.
  • Locked wild – all wild symbols get locked in position for the duration of the feature.
  • Expanding wild – all wild symbols that land expand to cover an entire reel.
  • Multiplier wild – all wilds that appear come with a multiplier of 2x, 3x, or 4x. If there is more than one multiplier wild on-screen, the multipliers of all wild symbols are added together.

Yummy Wilds: Verdict

Well, it’s not the most original slot out there in terms of theme or gameplay. The format has been used in a thousand other slots since the dawn of iGaming, so in that regard, it’s more of the same. It isn’t badly made though - 243 win ways is always appreciated, graphics and effects are clear, and it feels like a step in a positive direction in some regards from Max Win Gaming. A small one perhaps, but if gummy bear slots are your thing, then Yummy Wilds might have something to offer.

While light on intense gaming, Yummy Wilds possesses two elements that might make it pop up on the radar for some players. The first is the bonus game which can turn into a bit of a wild-fest when the going is good - particularly the locked wild version. Get a bunch of wilds stuck to reels 2 and 3 early on and it pours forth wins which each consecutive spin which is always fun.

That leads to the second positive aspect, which is the game’s potential. Max Win Gaming claims payouts of up to 9,442 times the stake are possible and there's really no reason to doubt that number seeing how potent all the different free spins bonuses are.

If you like candy, wilds, and a bit of potential to go with them, you might find joy in the pink stained saccharine world that is Yummy Wilds. On the other hand, its looks and gameplay often make it feel like a decade-old title. Yummy Wilds may come with a flavour-free gelatinous base game, but the free spins round can be quite a sugar rush.

Mediocre

Max Win Gaming use a tried and true formula to drive a sugary overload of a slot that possess a surprisingly high potential.
