90K Yeti Gigablox: Slot Overview
Back in 2019, developer 4ThePlayer strapped on their hiking boots, hired a Sherpa to carry their heavy belongings and made the long trek through the Himalayas in 9K Yeti – a trident of a name serving three purposes. One, it sort of referenced the height in meters of Mt Everest, two, it pushed the game up any alphabetised list, and three, it was roughly what the max win was. Two of these purposes remain for the follow up 90K Yeti Gigablox, and big win players will be pleased to know Everest hasn't increased in height by 10x recently. Obviously, 4ThePlayer is going large for the sequel, and they've had help in doing so by incorporating Yggdrasil's Gigablox mechanic. As well as this are Snow Blox, Yeti Reveals, Snowstorms, Giga Summons, and free spins.
Visually, it looks like 4ThePlayer picked a calmer day to begin the ascent, as the weather is more pleasant than it was in 9K Yeti. The Yeti's there, as cut as ever, huffing, and puffing on the side of the screen, occasionally triggering a modifier to give players a helping hand. The main difference is the new 6x6 Gigablox powered game grid, where it is possible to have up to 46,656 ways to win. However, in the base game, Snow Blox randomly appear which essentially are dead symbols that don't contribute anything except block combinations from being made. Due to Gigablox, when you hit spin, you never know how the reels will align. This is because Gigablox merges reels to create symbols of 2x2 to 6x6 in size, adding dynamism to the action.
Playable on any device, 90K Yeti provides stakes from 10 p/c to £/€10 per spin, a modest range likely in order to reduce liability due to the massive max win figure. Volatility is high, crazy high during testing as masses of nothing could be offset by something surprisingly huge dropping out of nowhere. The RTP, meanwhile, is slightly below average at 95.5%, though it has decreased slightly from the previous one's value of 97%.
Landing a regular win occurs when matching symbols land on consecutive reels from the left-hand side of the panel. When calculating a win, Gigablox symbols break down into individual 1x1 sized tiles first. The symbols haven't altered much either, so players get 10-A card ranks worth 0.8x your stake for six of a kind, followed by ropes, picks, tents worth up to 1.2x your stake for 6oak, and finally Sherpas, a lady climber, a man climber, and Yetis as the top paying symbols worth 2x-4.8x for a full line. Once again, Everest is the wild, substituting for all symbols except the scatter.
90K Yeti Gigablox: Slot Features
4ThePlayer has beefed up the features where several modifiers are randomly activated in various stages of the game, while the main one is free spins. Occurring at random in the base game is the Yeti Reveal feature. When activated, the Yeti will destroy Snow Blox to reveal winning symbols.
The Snowstorm is another arbitrary feature. In this one, the Yeti shuffles the reels into a new order to create a win.
Giga Summon can strike at any time, where the Yeti summons a large Gigablox reel containing symbols of at least 4x4 in size.
The icy footprint symbol is the scatter, and 5 or more trigger free spins. The number of spins awarded is equal to the number of triggering scatter symbols in view on the reels. During this bonus round, Snowstorm and Giga Summon features have an enhanced chance to trigger, with at least one guaranteed. Also, all Snow Blox are removed from the reels for the duration of the round. Lastly, for every scatter that lands in the feature, +1 additional free spin is awarded.
If available, players can choose from 4 feature buy modes. These are 5, 10, or 20 free spins, or a Giga Summon Spin where a 4x4, 5x5, or 6x6 Gigablox reel is guaranteed.
90K Yeti Gigablox: Slot Verdict
4ThePlayer might have gone large with 90K Yeti, but there are mixed feelings about it. The game starts off well, with a great view of Everest and lines of prayer flags they have throughout the Himalayas rattling in the wind. It's some nice oil painting imagery evoking the beauty of Everest, hinting at the deeper spiritual significance it has for some people. Then when you click to enter the game, the mysticism is replaced by a much more mundane, down to earth sensation. It doesn't look bad at all, just not as entrancing. Only saying all of this because not everyone is going to walk away with 90K Yeti's colossal top prize, and what you're left staring at while trying to do so is kind of average. Apart from the grid swap, not much has changed visually or atmospherically since 2019, and others have since stepped in to do this part of the world a bit better, Katmandu Gold being a prime example.
It is nice having a few modifiers in the base game to liven things up. As is using pay ways rather than the fixed paylines you usually get in a Gigablox game. However, the Snow Blox do a good job of stunting the mechanic's effectiveness in the main game and it is a relief when they are completely removed for free spins. Then the whole set-up shakes them off to show what it can do. Despite the several modifiers, there's no real trick or secret to getting decent results. You just want masses of the same symbol to hit to take advantage of the ways and the six reels. As the name alludes to, if it all goes to plan, wins as high as 93,312x the bet are possible – this was achieved during 100,000,000 simulated game rounds. Hitting 90k in real life is akin to getting high-def pics of an actual Yeti and would be super positive news for 4ThePlayer.
Like the previous one, there is something a little off about 90K Yeti, but it's hard to pin down exactly what the issue is. Maybe it's the Snow Blox, or the way you have to wade through a load of spins before anything happens, maybe the way the Yeti constantly stares at you is a little disconcerting. Whatever it is, 90K Yeti dangles a massive carrot, which will no doubt be enough to help some players see past any idiosyncrasies and take on a big, fanged, challenge.
