Cat Clans: Slot Overview

Cat Clans is an adorable yet surprisingly potent game from Stockholm and Helsinki based studio Snowborn Games. After dropping their debut slot, The Vault, like some sort of iGaming Jack Reacher, their games seemed to have been on an ever-cuter trajectory ever since. Cat Clans is the apex of this journey to date; a feline filled slot set in the Scottish Highlands. Why cats, you might be asking? Well, your guess is as good as ours, but if we were going to hazard a very tenuous speculation, it might be because the team has been bashing Relax Gaming‘s Top Dawg$, and it was on the back of their minds. Hear us out. As well as domesticated animals, Cat Clans has a Top Dawg$ style sticky wild multiplier free spins round, as well as Clan Battle Bonus Spins.

A game called Cat Clans could only be designed using a cartoonish approach, so there are no disappointments in that regard. There is a faint echo of Peter & Sons going on here, not as individually stylistic as the Armenian studio, but the scene is warm and friendly. It depicts the hills and mountains of the Highland location, with a Camelot type castle nestled to the right of the game grid. Other noteworthy sights are a glowing treasure chest, which feeds into the Clan Battle Bonus, plus a buy free spins button, for those in applicable territories.

Taking bets from 20 c/p to €/£25 per spin, the game is played on a 5-reel, 3-row game panel, users score coins when three or more identical symbols land across one of the 20 fixed paylines. Offering wins of up to 20,000 times your stake, Cat Clans is Snowborn’s biggest slot to date from a potential perspective, and its big top prize has been matched with a highly volatile math model. The RTP comes in a trio of forms, the most attractive one being a figure of 96% while a hit rate of 33.29% keeps the game ticking along.

The clannish cats in question appear as the game’s premium symbols, where there are four of them worth 10 to 12.5 times the stake for five of a kind. From there, J-A royals, fishbones, and Mac Milky bottles make up the lower pays. Wilds appear on all reels and pay out up to 111x the bet if five wilds line up. In addition, each wild lands with a multiplier of x1-x5 attached, which is applied to any wins, the wild is involved in. If there is more than wild included in a winning line, the multiplier values are all multiplied together.

Cat Clans: Slot Features

Cat Clans comes with two separate bonus rounds. One is called Cat-a-pult Free Spins, which can be triggered naturally or bought if the option is available. The second bonus feature is the Clan Battle Bonus.

Cat-a-pult Free Spins

Landing 3 scatter symbols on reels 1, 3, and 5 awards 1.5x the bet, as well as 3 Cat-a-pult Free Spins. While this feature is active, when wild symbols land, they reset the number of free spins and become Sticky Wilds. Sticky Wild symbols remain in their position for the duration of free spins. On each remaining spin, the catapult shoots at one of the sticky wilds, increasing its multiplier value by +1. The maximum multiplier a Sticky Wild can have is x9.

Clan Battle Bonus

Golden paw symbols can appear over any of the premium cat symbols. When they appear, they zoom to the treasure chest at the bottom left of the screen and may randomly trigger the Clan Battle Bonus. Each of the 4 cat symbols – Clan Mac Cattus, Clan Mac Whiskers, Clan Mac Feline, and Clan Mac Tabby, is allocated a prize of at least 10x the bet. Over the next 5 spins, the cat symbol that lands the most often awards its respective prize to the player. If there is a draw between the symbols, an extra spin will be awarded until a winner is found.

Buy Free Spins

If available in your jurisdiction, players can buy Cat-a-pult free spins and instantly trigger them for 50x the total bet.

Cat Clans: Slot Verdict

If you’re looking around for a cute slot that has a sting in its tail, Cat Clans might be one to try. The game certainly has a charming look, and being located up in the Highlands gives it a unique setting. In reality, it’s not totally unique, as Cat Clans does look a bit like one of Snowborn’s previous games, Legend of the Sword, all castles, and mountains, except this one stars kitties instead of Kings.

Cat Clans is arguably a more individual experience than Legend of the Sword due to its duo of bonus games. Both are pretty good features, too. There isn’t as much battling going on in the Clan Battle Bonus as you might expect, yet it can get pretty exciting if a substantial prize is on the line, and it looks as though you might be able to win it. Since you get just five spins, what follows can be surprisingly intense. While we weren’t quite lucky enough to do so, it is possible to win 10,000 times your stake from this feature.

Snowborn could have called it a day there, but it’s actually possible to win more from Cat-a-pult Free Spins. Sticky wild multipliers with the ability to multiply each other are well-known slot performers, as we’ve seen in games like Top Dawg$, as alluded to above, and they can do so in Cat Clans. Increasing the value of one sticky wild per spin is a nice touch, and should it blow up, wins as high as 20,000x the bet are possible. Being able to buy them for the reasonable price tag of 50x the bet is sure to appeal to certain players as well.

All in all, Cat Clans is a competently designed slot from Snowborn. Disarming looks have been bolstered by a couple of bonus games that can be as lucrative as they are exciting, all neatly packaged with plenty of feline charm.
