Cluster Slide: Slot Overview
If there is one thing that the ELK team has a propensity for, it's tinkering with reel setups and the way symbols move across them. The Gold series expands rows and ways, while their gravity mechanics apply the laws of physics to the way symbols cascade. This pioneering spirit blooms in Cluster Slide, which uses an unusual avalanche action located in a cute, feisty, off-world destination.
Cluster Slides’ 7-column, 8-row sized grid is set on a planet named Jellyton, inhabited by symbols mostly made up of a bunch of square monsters, some covered in jelly, others covered in fur. They also like to eat - each other. Yeah, it's a pretty wacky world, but it is an attractive one too, where several planets float above the planet's surface. It got us wondering what the effect of having so many planetary bodies so close by would be. Would everything hang in some knife-edge cosmic equilibrium, or would all that gravity cause colossally destructive effects?
Players can take their trip to Jellyton on any device where bets from 20 p/c to £/€100 per spin may be set. Stats are totally dependable, starting with a theoretical return value of 96%. Volatility is high, as is potential, making for a potent mix where all of a sudden a seemingly endless spin produces something special.
The grid is certainly an explosion of colour, largely due to the bright pay symbols of which 4 are lower-value jelly monsters in green, blue, yellow, and red, followed by higher-paying green, purple, orange, and red furry monsters. All animate when used in a win and occasionally display cannibalistic tendencies towards each other. The largest premium clusters are comprised of 15 or more symbols worth 100 to 500 times your stake when they appear. Cluster Slide bulges at the seams with wild symbols, and the pink coloured one is a standard type, landing anywhere to replace regular pay symbols to help form clusters.
Cluster Slide: Slot Features
Cluster Slide is all about getting on a roll of wins to trigger wild effects, multipliers, or bonus games. When a winning combination of 5 or more matching symbols hit, the avalanche system removes them, and new symbols either drop into the gaps or slide to the left into them. The grid's slight tilt adds to this effect. Avalanching like this ups the suspense as you mentally calculate optimal positions for new symbols to avalanche into.
All winning clusters contribute to a Generator meter located to the top right of the grid. When full, it awards 1 of 5 Feature Wild symbols.
- Big - expands a random symbol to a 2x2 sized symbol.
- Random – transforms 2-4 pay symbols into wilds.
- Multiplier – increase the win multiplier by +1.
- Upgrading – picks one symbol type and upgrades them to a higher value type.
- Removing – removes all of one symbol type from the grid.
Additionally, Feature Wild symbols land organically, triggering their effect if used in a win. Generating all 5 wild features in a game round adds +5 to the win multiplier.
Keep an eye out for the 'B' symbols. Land 3 of them in a spin sequence to be rewarded 3 Wild Drops. The first drop turns all bonus 'B' symbols on the grid into wilds, then adds three 1x1 wild symbols. The second drop adds two 2x2 wild symbols, while the third drop adds one 3x3 sized wild onto the grid. A little like the Gargantoon in reverse.
If that all sounds too good to wait for, players may be able to access the X-citer feature. Like Bompers, where this feature debuted, the X-citer offers a menu of feature buy options players can choose from.
Cluster Slide: Slot Verdict
Cluster Slide is further evidence of a studio reviling in producing far-out slots. If you thought Nitropolis was madcap, Cluster Slide takes it to the next level. Then again, Clusters Slide can hardly be called brand new as it leans so heavily on Reactoonz in that it's a grid slot with cute alien characters and similar gameplay. However, Cluster Slide does feel like an evolution, a slight one, over what came before it. Visually, it is certainly a richer experience, the eight cannibalistic critters are just as personable, and the stats are generally better.
Any players left a little cold by Reactoonz 2 would do well to take a look at what ELK's done here. Cluster Slide has all the makings of a frenetic grid slot that can blow when just the right combinations of clusters line up. It is definitely a volatile beast, happy to breeze through a stack of low-value drops before getting to the good stuff. On the way, it can be a real tease too, getting ever so close to free drops before resetting again.
Sessions weren't tedious though – quirky graphics and a brilliant soundtrack provide a hyperactive setting while there is always something popping on the grid to stave off any boredom. The generator collection system adds a long term goal, while the fact Feature Wilds land organically and don't only show up when triggered is a nice addition. It's also a solid paying game. Get Cluster Slide on an all-time roll and wins as high as 10,000x the stake are possible.
In many ways, Cluster Slide is everything Reactoonz 2 should have been. Despite similarities to Play’n GO’s classic, ELK has integrated the new touches with the relentlessly smooth gameplay so well, you kind of shrug off any comparisons and just go with the flow, or slide, as it were.
Clusters Slides’ various wild features, avalanches, and free drops combine to create a manic grid slot experience very much in the Reactoonz vein.
