Dragon's Luck Megaways (Red Tiger): Overview

Dragon's Luck was originally released in 2015 at a time when Red Tiger, or Red Tiger Gaming as they were called back then, still had something to prove. Though the gameplay may come across as a bit dated by today's standards, it's undoubtedly one of those classic Red Tiger slots that helped establish the company as a key player in the iGaming industry. There's also a Power Reels version of Dragon's Luck available with more than twice as much potential on offer (increased from 1,380x to 3,888x). For those of you not familiar with Red Tiger's in-house developed Power Reels mechanic, it's their response to the increase in demand for more win ways. A significantly less sophisticated version of Megaways if you will.

In this third version of Dragon's Luck, the game has finally received the upgrade it so much deserves. Interestingly, the mechanic of the original makes for quite a unique Megaways experience. Forget all about horizontal reels, increasing win multipliers and cascading symbols. In this 6-reel video slot powered by Red Tiger, you'll benefit from mystery symbols, mega symbols and symbol upgrades instead. The reels, which randomly generate between 2 - 7 symbols on each spin, can combine to give you up to 117,649 ways to win when fully expanded.

As we've discussed previously, such as in the Dragon's Fire Megaways review, for example, we have started to see a slight decrease in RTP in new Red Tiger slots. In the original version of the slot, players benefit from a 96.24% RTP, which is well within the acceptable zone. In Dragon's Luck Megaways, it has dropped to 95.69%. Not a massive drop mind you, but one that some players might want to take into consideration when choosing what to play nonetheless. Medium to high variance and playable from 0.10 to €/£ per spin, you can play it across all devices, including iOS and Android.

Visually, Dragon's Luck Megaways retains the look and feel of the original version. Set in the Himalayan mountains with cloud-covered mountain peaks forming the backdrop, the actual game area is positioned inside a Chinese temple. The reels are dominated by lower-value 10 to A playing cards whilst the premiums are made up of water lilies, koi fish, and Chinese doll's. The most rewarding, however, is the 138 coin - six across a full payline will give you 38 times your stake. The game has no wild symbol to benefit from.

Dragon's Luck Megaways (Red Tiger): Features

When it comes to features, Dragon's Luck Megaways again follows the same recipe as the original. With Megaways engine at play, however, everything gets bigger and better - including the win potential.

As you may already be aware of, there is no free spins feature here, but several base game features to benefit from. Keep an out for the Dragon Coin symbol. When it appears in view, it will begin to rotate to reveal a randomly chosen paytable symbol. If you land several of these, all instances will reveal the same matching symbol to help you form bigger wins.

Better yet is the Mega Coin symbol which can arrive in the form of a 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 super symbol. When it hits, it'll split into multiple Dragon Coins to reveal the same random symbol. In combination with the Dragon Coin symbols, it can lead to potentially enormous payouts.

Look closely, and you'll notice twin dragons twisting around the pillars on each side of the reels. Known as the Dragon's Blessing feature, these dragons can randomly awaken to breathe fire onto the game area. As a result, the Dragon Coins appearing on the reels will flip once more to reveal even better paying symbols.

Dragon's Luck Megaways (Red Tiger): Verdict

Dragon's Luck is one of those slots that truly benefits from a Megaways upgrade. As intriguing as the original was when first released, it now comes across as confined, limited and, quite frankly, utterly dated. That's not the case with Dragon's Luck Megaways. The randomness of the Megaways engine in combination with the dynamic features and outstanding potential makes for great gameplay.

Not that the game stands out as particularly spectacular or innovative, but it's a solid workhorse for all fans of the Megaways engine in which features trigger frequently and where the massive 10,000x potential will be sure to keep you on the edge. Moreover, if there's one thing Red Tiger does well, it's those randomly triggered features that may or may not come into play. Incredibly frustrating at times, but equally exciting when activated. If you enjoyed the original, this is a no-brainier. Even if not a fan, this remake carries enough unique elements to offer a refreshing gaming experience.
