Eternal Dawn: Slot Overview

It wasn't long ago that developer Slotmill was contemplating the concept of forever in the online slot Eternal Dusk, and now here we are mere months later, staring down the barrel of Eternal Dawn. Guess eternal, in this case, might not be so long? Anyway, Eternal Dawn is a follow-up and possesses several links to Eternal Dusk outside their similar titles. For one thing, peak thrills are induced by a free spins feature, which returns the Golden Roaming Wild symbol, which boasts a growable multiplier that gets increasingly potent as players progress through various stages.

Where its predecessor took place in a twilight world of shadows and mystery, Eternal Dawn flips on the light switch to illuminate a celestial-looking realm of clouds, columns, and enchanting sounds. The main hero of the game is Apollo, the Greek god of the sun, poetry, healing, and more. The two games could hardly be much more different atmospherically - such is the difference between dusk and dawn, one going into darkness, the other into light, though in saying that, when we get to the features section, eagle-eyed players will notice a few similarities.

Played on a 5x4 reelset, Eternal Dawn has 30 paylines to evaluate winning combinations that pay left to right from the leftmost reel. Slotmill has reduced the volatility to a medium-high setting for this one, though max RTP is slightly higher at 96.08%. The stake range is 10 c to $/€60, and as before, gamblers may activate the Xtra-Bet, increasing the stake by 50% to make it 3 times more likely to trigger free spins. If you really want to speed things up, Eternal Dawn is equipped with Slotmill's Burst Mode to do so.

Greco-style J though A card ranks are Eternal Dawn's low pays, awarding 3 to 4 times the bet for a 5 OAK winning line. Its high pays are bow 'n' arrows, wreaths, vases, harps, and Apollos, awarding 5 to 20 times the stake when landing a 5 OAK winning line. Wilds replace any pay symbol in a winning line and appear on all reels. A winning combination of all wilds (including Golden Roaming Wilds) has the same value as the Apollo symbol.

Eternal Dawn: Slot Features

There have been adjustments to the rules, but Eternal Dawn's features largely mirror those of Eternal Dusk, where we encounter Wild Drops, free spins with roaming wild multipliers and a progressive element, super free spins, as well as feature buys.

Wild Drop

On any base game spin, the Wild Drop feature may randomly trigger. When activated, 3 to 5 wild symbols with multipliers of x2 to x10 are added to the reels. One wild may appear per reel, starting from the leftmost reel.

Free Spins Bonus

Landing 3 or more scatters in the base game awards 5 free spins. When triggered by 3, 4, or 5 scatters, the Bonus collection starts at 3, 4, or 5 symbols, respectively. A Multiplier Meter tracks the free spin stage progression. Each stage is activated by collecting a certain number of scatters, awarding additional free spins and upgraded Stage Multipliers.

  • Stage 2 - collect 6 scatters for +5 free spins with an x2 Stage Multiplier.
  • Stage 3 - collect 9 scatters for +5 free spins with an x3 Stage Multiplier.
  • Stage 4 - collect 13 scatters for +5 free spins with an x4 Stage Multiplier.
  • Stage 5 - collect 17 scatters for +5 free spins with an x10 Stage Multiplier.

All free spins at the current state are completed before advancing to the next stage. Landing wild symbols makes them Roaming Wilds that move to new positions between spins, but they do not carry multipliers.

Free spins begin with an unfilled Golden Roaming Wild that has a starting multiplier of x1, which moves to a random position before each spin. At the end of a stage, the unfilled Golden Roaming Wild collects all Roaming Wilds on the reels, and for each wild collected, the Golden Roaming Wild multiplier increases by +1 (it is then considered filled). Following this, Roaming Wilds are removed from the grid. Before the start of the next stage, a new unfilled Golden Roaming Wild is added, with its multiplier starting at the current Stage Multiplier value. Hitting 3 or more scatters retriggers the feature, awarding +5 free spins at the current stage.

Super Free Spins

If free spins are triggered with a super scatter, then players are awarded super free spins, where all Stage Multipliers have double the value. Otherwise, the mechanics of free spins apply to super free spins.

Fast Track

The Fast Track provides direct access to Eternal Dawn's features. From it, players may guarantee a Wild Drop occurs in a game round for 40x the bet, but free spins for 100x, or super free spins for 400x the bet.

Eternal Dawn: Slot Verdict

Slotmill certainly does seem to like wild multipliers that roam about the place. The feature has populated previous slots such as Tyrant's Fall, Emperor's Rise and, of course, Eternal Dusk. Eternal Dawn is like the little bro of the Eternal family, the way Emperor's Rise was a 'littler' version of Tyrant's Fall. The general mechanical gist remains more or less the same, but Slotmill has eased the volatility from high to medium-high and adjusted some of the rules while dropping back winning potential a notch or two. Where Dusk topped the scales at 10,000x, Eternal Dawn has a decreased maximum possible payout of 6,000 times the bet.

As for the gaming itself, there are a few changes to wrap your head around. As in the previous slot, Eternal Dawn's base game's renamed Wild Drop feature has been built in to tickle the adrenaline if and when it triggers in that phase of play. Free spins are the far more exciting proposal, however, since that's where the moving Golden Roaming Wild enters the arena, and if you can progress through the round, an extra Golden Roaming Wild is added to the reels at each new stage. Contrast this with Eternal Dusk, where super scatters were needed to land in order to add extra roaming wilds to the reels. Also, in Eternal Dusk, the Stage Multiplier was added to the Golden Roaming Wild not only when staging up but for each collected wild, rather than just the Stage Multiplier being applied to new Golden Roaming Wilds when they are added as it is here.

Hey, change is good, and some players may not only prefer this method but also the more lightful, Apollo-enriched setting it takes place in. The brighter visuals are arguably more pleasing to the eye unless your preference is purply shadows, and while the extremes might not be quite as extreme as before, Eternal Dawn still has the ability to quicken the pulse rate with its clever, if in some ways subtle, rules changes.

In Short

A brighter theme and tweaks to its features means Eternal Dawn soars in a different direction from its predecessor.
