Ever After Slot: Introduction

One can never rule out NextGen Gaming, a studio with some of the most classic online slots in its portfolio which includes games like Medusa, 300 Shields, and Cash Stampede. Unfortunately, the good slots are few and far between although NextGen games do tend to be of all-around decent quality.

Set against a backdrop very much reminiscent of NetEnt's Mirror Mirror, Ever After is a fairy tale themed slot with a dark twist. The story takes place in Darkwood, an enchanted forest where a fairy named Faye is on a mission to help you land the big wins. Visually it's nothing too spectacular, but the sound team has done a great job producing a sound loop that doesn't get more "enchanted" than this.

Ever After is a 5-reel, 3-row video slot with 243 ways to win. Playable on all devices, it allows for bets between €0.15 to €37.50 and has a 95.46% RTP, which is a bit below our acceptable limit of 96%. This is a medium variance game, but with the possibility of endless re-triggers, it's capable of some massive payouts. There's a Mirror Magnificent feature included which we will look into more below.

Ever After Slot: Symbols & Paytable

On the reels we find 4 low-value symbols consisting of not so exciting hearts, spades, diamonds and spades. The 4 premiums are represented by girl, boy, owl and mouse symbols which, during the Mirror Magnificent feature, may transform into their Wild symbol state of Princess Adva, Rakaq, Doron Dangerfield and Bria Delmy. The girl, being the top regular symbol, gives you 4 times the stake for 5 of a kind, but turned into Princess Adva Wild symbol, the value increases to 20 times the stake.

Mirror Magnificent Feature

The Mirror Magnificent feature is a randomly triggered feature that appears when the frame around the first reel turns into gold. Faye will then show up to enchant up to 3 symbols on the first reel and for the spin to follow the symbols are enchanted accordingly:

  • Wild: super-charged wild potion expands to fill the whole reel.
  • Scatter: 2 scatter symbols will be enough to trigger the free spins game.
  • Premiums: one or more premiums are transformed into wild symbols.
  • Low-value symbols: one or more low-value symbols are upgraded to premiums

Ever After Slot: Free Spins

Free Spins mode

To trigger the bonus you will have to land 3, 4 or 5 scatters which award 6, 12 or 30 free spins respectively. Should you trigger the bonus during the Mirror Magnificent feature 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols will then award 6, 12, 30 or 60 free spins respectively.

In the bonus, you benefit from Faye enchanting every single spin and the possibility of having endless re-triggers. The free spins mode is of higher variance than the main game and with the chance of landing 4860 times the stake per single spin should you land a full screen of wild reels which is not bad at all.

Ever After Slot: Conclusion

When we first fired up the game to give it a few spins we didn't really have high expectations. Being a NextGen slot of medium variance didn't seem like a combo much likely to impress us. As it turns out, however, it's a game with massive potential, which is reason enough for us to add it to our sessions. The max win of 4860x is possible to land in the main game as well as in the bonus, which should help keep the excitement level up throughout the whole session.

Sure, it's not the best-designed game we've ever seen and, just like most other games, it can get a bit slow when not in the mood for payouts but if the chance of full-screen wilds and huge wins is not enough to convince you to play it, then what is. We'll just end this review by making a bold statement - Ever After has all the ingredients needed to become a NextGen classic the likes of Medusa II.
