Gargoyle Infinity Reels: Slot Overview
Visit an old Gothic structure and you are likely to see hordes of gargoyles poking their mugs out to ward off evil spirits. They also have a practical secondary role as an elaborate drain pipe to divert water off the roof to minimise rain damage. Not quite so mystical a function that one. Whether gargoyles possess a metaphysical quality or are simply an attractive way to solve drainage problems, they do add personality to a building. They are also the focal point in Boomerang Studio's slot Gargoyle Infinity Reels, another in a rapidly growing pool of slots powered by ReelPlay's Infinity Reels mechanic.
Fans of animated series might be able to remember a fabulous older cartoon called Gargoyles starring Keith David as the voice of Goliath. Gargoyle Infinity Reels isn't as moody as the show, but first impressions were more positive than they have been with many other Infinity Reels slots to date. Boomerang has walked the line between being spooky and outright cartoonish, giving off an almost Avatar UX vibe. They've blended a bit of both to create a somewhat darkly atmospheric game, tempered with enough light-heated visuals to keep it breezy.
In the middle of a castle room, players find a 3-reel, 4-row game grid. Unlike some, this one does not scroll to the right when reels are added. Instead, when the grid grows, it pushes everything to the left, so only the three most recent reels are displayed. A counter on the right-hand side helps players keep track of how many winning symbols are piling up. Flickering candles and a view of a purple cloudy sky over pointy towers make up the rest of the view, while a playful Harry Potter-esque soundtrack adds the final dash of mystery.
Powered by Relax Gaming, Gargoyle Infinity Reels is available on any device, offering bets from 25 p/c to £/€10 per spin. As indicated by the low max bet, volatility is high as are potential wins, possible via features such as free spins and jackpots. The 95.75% RTP is neither great nor terrible, and while hit rate stats were not available, don't expect a flurry of combos to occur. This is because when wins hit, they kick off a chain of features which can be rather lengthy at times.
As for the paytable, it opens with spades, clubs, hearts, and diamonds at the bottom end, all worth 0.2x the bet for three of a kind. Better returns are possible from 4 gargoyles making up the high pays where a three of a kind win will get you 0.6 to 2 times your stake. Unlike some Infinity Reels games, there is no symbol multiplier. Instead, for every additional qualifying symbol greater than 3 of a kind, the win is paid out again. For clarification purposes, 4 of the top premiums would be worth 4x the bet, while five a kind would be worth 6x the bet. The last symbol in this section is a boss gargoyle wild, substituting regular pay symbols to complete a win. Wilds are instrumental during free spins as well, helping trigger further features.
Gargoyle Infinity Reels: Slot Features
Building on the Infinity Reels mechanic is a triggered round of free spins using a wild collection feature which expands reels and may award a jackpot in the process. It starts by landing 3 or more scatters on a spin sequence to win 10 free spins plus a payout worth 1x the bet for 3 scatters, while every additional scatter repays the amount. It means, for example, that 4 scatters are worth 2x the bet.
During free spins, if gargoyle wilds land, they add an additional symbol position on the new reel, making it 4 to 6 rows high. If a wild lands on a reel that is 6 positions high, a random jackpot worth 3x to 888x the total bet is paid. For the rest of the spin sequence, all additional reels appear at the expanded height, only resetting to their original size between free spins.
Gargoyle Infinity Reels: Slot Verdict
The Infinity Reels bandwagon rumbles on, with new releases relentlessly popping up like critters in a game of whack-a-mole. Gargoyle Infinity Reels isn't Boomerang Studios' first use of the mechanic either but is a vast improvement over Crystal Wolf Infinity Reels. For one, they've eliminated much of the chunkiness, and there is a bonus game which can actually accomplish something. Not only do free spins manage to stir the blood when reels expand but are capable of sizeable wins as well.
While Gargoyle Infinity Reels displays a progression from the previous Boomerang attempt, it still carries all of the pros and cons inherent in the format. For many, Infinity Reels just hasn't jelled yet. And, if such a widespread adoption by so many studios has failed to convince the naysayers so far, it's unlikely Infinity Reels ever will.
Each to their own of course, and one thing which might sweeten the deal is the game's potential. Offering wins of over 20,000 times the stake, max win is nothing to be sneered at. You don't need us to tell you scoring massive wins here will be a tall order in the absence of a symbol multiplier. We're talking crazy length symbol combinations, presumably on expanded reels to get near the game's limit. Knocking out a jackpot on the way would certainly help as well.
To wrap up, the peculiar theme combined with big potential makes this a more attractive proposal than many in the Infinity range. This doesn't mean the mechanic's downsides are completely negated for players not sold on the concept though. However, if you're partial to some Infinity Reels powered action, Gargoyle is one of the better ones to consider firing up.
A unique theme and solid potential make Gargoyle one of the more desirable Infinity Reels games.
