When you think scatter pays these days (at least, when Genie's Arabian Riches was reviewed), it's often nigh on impossible not to draw comparisons to Pragmatic Play's hit Gates of Olympus. It would appear that Neon Valley Studios might have been thinking the same thing because Genie's Arabian Riches has a number of commonalities. For one, we're dealing with a powerful entity, this time a genie, who, like Zeus in Gates, hovers in the air next to the gaming grid. For two, Genie's Arabian Riches has multiplier symbols here, too, tied to the MultiChase element. For the view, Genie's Arabian Riches puts on a sparkling, golden-hued, enchanting vision of its Arabian setting.

 

Even the gold bars framing the 6x5 gaming grid are Arabian influenced, and instead of using paylines or ways, it uses a scatter pays mechanic to land wins. When 8 or more matching symbols are on the grid in any position, a winning scatter combination is formed. The winning symbols are taken off the board, and others drop down to replace them. The hit rate on all models, including the default 96% RTP model, is 24%, and the volatility is high. Players may choose a stake of 20 c up to $/€120 per spin and are also able to buy the free spins round if they so choose.

A moon and 4 other gem-like shapes are the lower-value symbols, while the higher-value ones are a cup, a pair of shoes, a dagger, and a carpet. Hitting a winning scatter containing 8 identical symbols pays 0.2 to 3 times the bet, going up to 2 to 50 times the bet when 12+ identical symbols are in view. One thing to say, Genie's Arabian Riches doesn't offer up wilds in the base game or in free spins. MultiChase Rolling Multipliers

A multiplier of x2 to x100 is randomly awarded for each multiplier symbol that lands on a winning spin. Multiplier symbols remain on the grid until the Rolling Reels process has finished and may randomly be upgraded. In the base game, all present multiplier symbols are added together, and the total is used to multiply the spin's win.

Scatters

Landing 3 scatter symbols in the base game increases the free spins multiplier by +1, up to a maximum of x20. When 4, 5, or 6 scatters hit, they award 10 free spins plus a prize of 1x, 20x, or 200x the bet. While free spins are active, hitting 3 scatters triggers an additional +5 free spins. The free spins multiplier does not apply to scatter retrigger wins.

Free Spins

When free spins are triggered, the current value on the free spins multiplier is carried over, which persists till the round ends. However, when a win occurs, and there is at least one multiplier symbol in view, the multiplier value is added to the total multiplier and applied to the win on that spin. The total multiplier keeps the updated value. Note that the total multiplier does not apply to wins if a multiplier symbol is not in view on the spin, and a multiplier symbol will not add its value to the total multiplier unless a win occurs on the spin. At the end of the round, the free spins multiplier resets to x1, though it can randomly reset to x2, x3, or x4.

Feature Buy

It is possible to buy free spins with an x1 multiplier for 50x the bet. Alternatively, if the free spins multiplier is higher than x1, then players can buy free spins with the higher multiplier value at the cost indicated on the screen.

Genie's Arabian Riches: Slot Verdict

Officially, we haven't seen much of the MultiChase feature since Thunderstruck Stormchaser and Sugar Craze Bonanza from Stormcraft Studios and Hammertime, respectively. In reality, since MultiChase appears to boil down to multiplier symbols hitting the reels, pssh, that happens all the time. It's a bit odd when studios give names to a general feature or mechanic, like the Nobleways thing All For One used once upon a time to name the 15,625 ways to win system in Mayan Eagle, for example. Nah, multiplier symbols in scatter-paying slots are common stuff, having reared up in, well, Pragmatic Play's Gates of Olympus as an obvious example, which seems to have served as a template for Genie's Arabian Riches in general.

In other words, if you like what Pragmatic Play's been doing in the scatter-paying space, there's a chance you'll like Neon Valley Studios' effort as well – provided raging originality isn't a key marker of a good slot. Genie's Arabian Riches advertises a max win potential of up to 15,000x the bet and uses many of the same tools as the previously mentioned slot to try and crack it or attempt to at any rate. Scatter wins, Rolling Reels, multipliers, it's a combo that's hard to beat and, apparently, hard to improve on.

That might not be completely fair, actually. Neon Valley Studio has spiced up the mix, added an extra squeeze of lemon juice to the hummus, if you will, by adding a growable starting free spins multiplier, fed when hitting exactly 3 scatters in the main game. Plus, the base free spins buy is quite cheap (relatively speaking), so when tallying up all the parts, Genie's Arabian Riches is pretty decent as far as copycat wannabes with a couple of tweaks go.
