Hypernova Infinity Reels: Slot Overview

Sometimes in life, you take one thing, add something else, and the result equals more than the sum of its two parts, like mac 'n cheese or Chewie and Han. If you're a major ReelPlay fan, then the coming together of two of their favoured concepts – Infinity Reels and Hypernova will be a dream come true. On the other hand, if your response is less enthusiastic, it can feel as though ReelPlay is flogging both in an attempt to squeeze every last mile out of them before they collapse like a white dwarf star nearing the end of its immense life cycle.

If you find yourself leaning towards the latter group described above, it won't help that Hypernova Infinity Reels is essentially a clone of a previous release titled Thor Infinity Reels. Both run on a reel set that starts in a 3x4 configuration before adding reels after wins, and both use a jackpot infused streak respin bonus round as a headliner. The outer graphical layer is totally different from Thor's battlefield, though far from new since the red and blue nebula clouds have turned up in several games such as Hypernova Megaways, Hypernova Radial Reels, as well as Hypernova 10K Ways. After seeing the list, it's no shocker to find the Hypernova theme being powered by ReelPlay's Infinity Reels mechanism. Statistically, Hypernova Infinity Reels' math model basically performs the same way the Thor one did, starting with a default RTP value of 96.2%, increasing to 96.6% if you are able to buy the Respins Bonus round.

Playable from 20 p/c to £/€25 per spin, the regular symbols have been recycled from the original Hypernova Megaways game, where we come across low pay 9-A royals, then four higher value gems. Values are a little difficult to deduce at first until you've collected a few wins, yet as an indicator, a winning combination of 5 diamonds is worth 0.25x the bet. Five is the minimum number of symbols required to create a win, by the way. It might sound low, but there are other ways of boosting payouts. One way is with the help of wild symbols, which substitutes for everything except the Hypernova bonus symbols.

Hypernova Infinity Reels: Slot Features

Hypernova Infinity Reels slot

Features in the game revolve around Infinity Reels, an Infinity Bonus, Symbol Multipliers, and the Hypernova Respin Bonus. How Infinity Reels works is when a winning combination hits, which includes the rightmost reel, an extra reel is added. If this new reel improves the win, another reel is added. New reels are continually added until the win is no longer improved. Then the grid resets back to its original size for the next paid spin.

In addition, whenever a new reel is added, the symbol multiplier increases by 1. When a win sequence ends, the number of winning symbols is multiplied by the current symbol multiplier. This multiplier does not have an upper limit and resets back to x1 at the start of each spin.

Also, should any game round result in 12 or more reels being added, players collect the Infinity Bonus on top of any other wins. The Infinity Bonus is a separate prize worth 888x the total bet.

Next, we have the Hypernova Respin Bonus round, triggered when at least 6 Hypernova bonus symbols are in view on the reels. The triggering bonus symbols are locked in place, all other symbols removed, then 3 respins are awarded. If new Hypernova symbols land, they lock to the grid and reset the respins counter. If a reel is filled with 4 Hypernova symbols, a new reel is added to the right, and it is technically possible to win the Infinity Bonus this way. When the feature ends, the total value of all Hypernova symbols is awarded. Each symbol possesses either Non-bonus prizes of 1 – 100 times the total bet or more lucrative bonus, silver, gold or platinum bonuses of 10x, 50x, 250x, or 2000x respectively

If possible, players may buy the Bonus Respin feature for 100x the bet. When paid for, a spin occurs that results in 6-15 reels, with 7-24 Hypernova symbols to start the feature.

Hypernova Infinity Reels: Slot Verdict

Since Hypernova and Infinity Reels are two of the key pillars in the ReelPlay toolkit, you might have thought their coming together would have been an excuse for the studio to lift the creative lid and go crazy with them. For whatever reason (convenience?) ReelPlay has done the total opposite and simply dressed a previous slot up in the familiar Hypernova graphics. The results are hardly original or very inspiring, though galaxy fans with a penchant for hold 'n win features might be on board.

As far as streak respins go, the Hypernova Respin Bonus isn't a bad one and has a few things going for it. The grid can get quite large, meaning there's plenty of room to land bonus symbols on and gets even bigger whenever a reel is filled. Play your cards very well, and there is the technical possibility of scoring the x888 Infinity Reels Bonus in the process. Then there's Platinum bonus 2,000x as the main prize, which isn't supernova, but hey, it's a tidy sum for this sort of thing.

Infinity Reels has proven to be a fairly successful business venture for ReelPlay. As well as licensing it to several other studios they've used to power a number of their own games as well. After seeing three previous incarnations of Hypernova in various forms, it stands to reason an Infinity Reels version was on the cards too. Now we've got Hypernova Infinity Reels, the main surprise is it didn't turn up sooner. However, instead of the amalgamation of two key ReelPlay tropes coming across as a labour of love, the fact they have cloned another slot by throwing some nebulaic gases and stars over Thor's game engine feels a little sad. It creates an impression that the Hypernova concept may be on its last legs, and this is a final, half-hearted hurrah.

Poor

Hypernova Infinity Reels is a game that’s just as hackneyed as its title makes it sound.
