Money Train (Relax Gaming): Overview
The games that have followed since Relax Gaming's breakthrough slot Temple Tumble Megaways made its appearance on the market have not been met with quite the same enthusiasm by the gambling community. Of course, the Megaways game engine itself ensures that any slot applying it will generate a certain degree of hype as it's known to be associated with components that most slots enthusiasts love - volatility, entertaining gameplay, a lot of bang for the buck and, most importantly, massive potential.
The studios latest release, Money Train, is not a new Megaways game, but it does pack quite some punch. Moreover, it comes with a Western-theme which, at the time of writing, currently is the hottest thing in the industry thanks to immensely popular recent releases such as Dead or Alive 2, Tombstone and The One Armed Bandit. Powered by the Silver Bullet platform, Money Train is a 5-reel, 4-row, 40-payline slot that benefits from stacked symbols in the main game, a bonus buy option and a Money Cart Bonus Round where up to 20,000 times your stake can be won. You can access this slot through any device, including iOS and Android, from 20 cents to 25€ per spin.
When you first boot up the game, you'll see a train come to a stop at a dusty railway station which will also provide the reels for your session. If you look closely, the first couple of carts promote other Relax Gaming titles, namely Zombie Circus and Temple Tumble Megaways. With an excellent upbeat spaghetti western soundtrack played on repeat, symbols on the reels include wooden card suit symbols alongside four outlaws - a girl, the Mexican, the Indian and a Buffalo Bill lookalike. The latter is the most rewarding, giving you 20 times your stake for a combination of five on a full payline. All regular symbols appear fully stacked on the reels in the base game, including the wild which is presented by the crossed shotguns - it substitutes for all other symbols in a winning combination.
Money Train (Relax Gaming): Features
Money Train is all about the Money Cart Bonus Round which comes into play when the bonus symbol appears on reels 1, 3 and 5. Once triggered, the game will take you to a different train cart with a new reel configuration where you'll see 20 individual symbol positions. The bonus round always begins with 3 spins and each time a new symbol hits one of the individual positions, the spin count resets. The bonus remains active as long as new symbols appear on the reels during your 3 spins.
Now, each symbol in the bonus round has its own behavior:
- Money Safe – Reveals an xbet value.
- Payer – Reveals an xbet value and adds it to all other visible symbols on the reels.
- Persistent Payer – Reveals an xbet value and adds it to all other visible symbols on the reels for that spin and any spin that will follow.
- Widener – Reveals an xbet value and opens an additional reel.
- Collector – Reveals an xbet value and then collects all visible values on the reels and add them to its own value.
- Persistent Collector – Reveals an xbet value and then collects all visible values on the reels and add them to its own value at the end of that spin and every spin that follows. This symbol does not collect its own value.
- Tumbleweed – Does not carry a value and does not reset the spin counter.
The key here is to land the Widener which opens an additional reel to give you even more individual symbols positions for you to land xbet values on. Highly volatile, this slot can award wins of up to 20,000 times your stake.
If you don't feel like waiting for the bonus to drop "organically", you can hit the Buy Feature button which will allow you to enter the bonus round for a price of 80 times your total stake. It will also boost the RTP from 96.2% to 98.0%.
Money Train (Relax Gaming): Verdict
The unorthodox bonus feature makes for quite a unique experience and Money Train is undoubtedly one of the more unusual slots we've seen in a while. Although there's a max payout of 800 times your stake on offer in the base game, Money Train is quite a volatile slot that is really all about the Money Cart Bonus feature. The lack of a traditional free spins round is likely to divide players into two camps but one thing is for sure, you can't be in a hurry playing the bonus here as it can go on for quite some time, especially if you reside in Sweden for example, where there is a 3 second spin rule applied.
To be quite honest, we weren't all that impressed with Money Train. Not because we didn't like the bonus, it's actually quite captivating, but because the main game was rather tedious which is made worse by the relatively low bonus frequency. Of course, you can always buy the bonus but that is besides the point as not all players are into it. Overall, Money Train is a decent release from Relax Gaming that offers some unusual mechanics and huge potential, but it certainly won't appeal to everyone.
If you're a fan of the original Money Train slot, be sure to check out the sequel, Money Train 2, as well.
