Raptor DoubleMax: Slot Overview
For Raptor DoubleMax, developer Yggdrasil is time machining back to a 'lost land before time' where 'creatures roam the earth, contesting for supremacy.' In other words, Raptor DoubleMax is a game filled with flora and fauna of an earlier epoch when dinosaurs were the ones in charge. It's also a game where a completely OP multiplier in free spins increments like nothing you've likely seen before. In addition, there are a couple of other features which are pleasantly simplistic in some ways yet combine to form something hugely volatile when assembled together.
Raptor DoubleMax is played on a 5-reel, 3-row game grid, providing players with 25 fixed paylines. It is set in a dank jungle, where everything has an exotic, overgrown quality, almost alien; no doubt it would have been a totally different planet back then. There's an Avatar feel to the place due to fluorescent plant life and the fact enormous, dangerous beasts could be lurking around every tree, ready to maul unsuspecting mammals. The soundtrack is surprisingly gentle, though, and the orderly way symbols drop into the grid provokes a relaxing feel, completely at odds with the game's ferocious nature.
What we mean by that is Raptor DoubleMax isn't just billed as a highly volatile game, but 'Super High' in the words of its maker. Its double up multiplier in the bonus game can go crazy though it does need a good wind up. Otherwise, it can be just as easy to flounder frustratingly at lower levels. Other key components of the math model include an RTP value of 96%, nicely average, and a hit frequency of 30.5%.
Playable from 20 p/c to £/€60 per spin, players score a win in Raptor DoubleMax when matching symbols line up left to right from the leftmost reel. Pay symbols begin with J-A card ranks before progressing through a selection of four premium dinosaur symbols worth 0.30 to 5 times the stake for 5 of a kind. Wild symbols appear at various points as well to complete win lines by substituting for any pay symbol. Wilds are integral to the features which feed off each other to create some dramatic results.
Raptor DoubleMax: Slot Features
At all points in Raptor DoubleMax, a cascading mechanism called the Dropdown feature is active. It is joined by a Golden Bet, free spins, a free spins gamble, and a doubling multiplier.
After every win, all winning symbols are removed from the reels via the Dropdown feature. Then, a wild symbol appears in one of the empty spaces while the rest are filled by new symbols cascading in from above. If wilds are used in a win, they are removed with the rest of the winning symbols. Cascades end when no new winning combination appears. Every Dropdown win also doubles the win multiplier, starting at x1. The multiplier is applied to any current win and resets between paid spins.
Landing at least 3 scatter symbols triggers the free spins game. Before they begin, players can choose to collect or gamble what they have won for a higher amount (7, 10, or 13 free spins) – unless you start from 13. Be aware if you lose the gamble, you lose the free spins. The rules of free spins are the same as the base game, with the exception that the win multiplier does not reset. Since it doubles on every Dropdown, it can technically reach dino-sized proportions.
Players may have a couple of ways of boosting their chance of triggering free spins. One is the Golden Bet which is an optional extra you can choose to engage or not. When activated, the chance of triggering free spins doubles, the cost of doing so increases the stake by 25%. Alternatively, where available, players can just buy the bonus straight away for the cost of 100x the stake.
Raptor DoubleMax: Slot Verdict
There's a lot about Raptor DoubleMax to get players keen on big volatile games frothing in anticipation. It shares the same graphics and focus on multipliers as Multifly, making it in many ways a follow on. However, Raptor DoubleMax is a different species altogether and has been expertly put together, so each feature blends with the others to create some exceptional moments. That's if everything works as you want it to. Let's not forget this is 'super volatile' after all, so Raptor DoubleMax can feel like a brontosaurus has stood on your foot at times.
To bring some balance, the 243 ways of Multifly have been replaced by a lower number of fixed paylines. Some might lament the change, but it works fine in conjunction with Dropdowns and added wilds – just as it did in the previous game. More importantly, doing so makes way for the doubling multiplier, which is principally what will draw players to Raptor DoubleMax.
Progressive multipliers are nothing new, they're old hat really, yet we're used to seeing them increment by +1, maybe a bit more, not doubling each time. It means Raptor DoubleMax can be sensational in action, and at higher levels, even a three low pay symbol combo is worth a stack of coins. Big multipliers are fortunately paired with decent potential as well, and Raptor DoubleMax can hit wins as high as 20,000x the bet. Although Yggdrasil states the 'highest multipliers in the industry can be achieved', Raptor DoubleMax would have made a stronger statement if the studio had gone as wild and crazy with the max win.
In some ways, Raptor DoubleMax is rather understated. It's not a game that tries to dazzle with some wacky, innovative feature or impress by using reel dynamic trickeries or the like. However, what it does do is pushed to the extreme, and for the lucky ones who catch Raptor DoubleMax on a good day, its multiplier doubles up in a way few other slots, if any, can match.
A successor to Multifly, Raptor DoubleMax is a much more volatile game capable of producing some of the biggest multipliers seen in a slot.
