Rumble Mutts: Slot Overview

One pressure on casino game makers is the constant push to come up with weird and wacky new ways for gamblers to win or lose cash. Red Tiger compadres Max Win Gaming came up with weird and wacky ways of not wanting to win too quickly in Don't Hit Plz! via a progress bar, which grew a win multiplier and levelled up after certain numbers of dead spins. That feature hasn't made a return in today's game Rumble Mutts, but the equally, if not more so, hair-pulling antics of Don't Hit Plz!'s Junkyard Bonus is back. This one, well, let's just say for now that it is at least worth demoing to witness the uniqueness of it all. As well as the Junkyard Bonus, Rumble Mutts has expanding multiplier wilds and free spins where wilds are sticky.

Like Don't Hit Plz!, Rumble Mutts has a punk rock faux-Hacksaw Gaming Chaos Crew neon look going on. A dingy city alley is the background location, sort of monochromatic with a red tinge to it, that gets the job done, while a selection of bright symbols adds spunk. When the wild symbol started expanding, it triggered thoughts of Reflex Gaming's Hell's Hogs of all things, though the two games are very different.

Just chilling out the back of the alley is Rumble Mutts' gaming grid. It's got 5 reels equipped with 3 rows and 20 paylines for winning combos to land along. Rumbling away in the shadows is a highly volatile math model that puts out, at best, an RTP of 96% when betting on individual spins. The game lets players buy their way to the two bonus games and accepts wagers of 10 c to a possible $/€100 (which is the standard range).

Five canines are Rumble Mutts' high pay symbols, awarding 5 to 15 times the bet for a 5 OAK winning combination. Down from there are bottle caps, cans, traps, and flaming 8 balls as the lower value pay symbols awarding 1 to 1.5 times the bet for a 5-of-a-kind hit.

Rumble Mutts: Slot Features

Rumble Mutts' bag of extras consists of wild symbols, which can expand and have multis, a free spins round where wilds stick, a potentially hair-pulling Junkyard Bonus round, and bonus buys.

Wild Symbol

The wild symbol substitutes for all pay symbols. Wilds expand to cover the whole reel they are on; after expanding, they will be part of a win. After expanding, the wild reveals a multiplier of x2, x3, x4, x5, or x10. The multiplier value applies to all winning combinations the wild participates in, and if more than one wild is part of the same win, then the multipliers add to each other. Wilds pay 15x the bet for a line of 5 of them.

Free Spins

Hitting 2 scatter symbols and 1 free spins symbol grants 15 free spins. In the free spins round, expanding wilds remain locked in position for the entire bonus round duration.

Junkyard Bonus

Hitting 2 scatters plus 1 Junkyard symbol triggers the Junkyard Bonus. A value appears above each reel showing a random number of 200x, 500x, 1,000x, 2,000x, or 5,000x. The feature begins with 3 respins, resetting each time a symbol lands. When 3 consecutive dead spins occur, the values above the reels are awarded. These symbols are able to land:

  • Minus - reveals a value of -1,000 to -20, which is deducted from the prize board above its reel.
  • RIP - reduces the prize board above its reel to 0, deactivating it.
  • Reset - resets its board back to its starting amount.
  • Freeze - locks the current value on the prize board above its reel, deactivating the reel. This frozen prize is awarded at the end of the round.

Feature Buy

Rumble Mutts lets players dive right into its free spins round for 80x the bet or the Junkyard Bonus for 500x the bet.

Rumble Mutts: Slot Verdict

Rumble Mutts is another vehicle for Max Win Gaming's Junkyard Bonus feature, but what the team has built around it is different to the accompanying features found in Plz Don't Hit! Neither set is exactly clear-cut better or worse than the other, but gamblers will likely have favourites. Plz Don't Hit! has the more unorthodox gameplay, such as the progress bar to win multiplier device, not forgetting that 10 consecutive dead spins are required to trigger the free spins feature. Even there, dead free spins are needed to level up the multiplier further and ultimately trigger the Junkyard Bonus. There's a lot going on, and Rumble Mutts has slimmed that all down and made the process more straightforward.

Now it is a simpler case of hitting the right triggering symbols, and boom, you're in. Even the base game has a slinkier feel, replacing the dead spin aspect with expanding wild multipliers, which are arguably easier to stomach in the long run. Less innovative, perhaps, but it's hard to argue with expanding wild multipliers, especially in free spins where they are sticky. Zeus vs Hades, Brute Force, Wanted Dead or a Wild - it's a potent feature, so no complaints there. The Junkyard Bonus, though, that one's more contentious, and its randomness might be a bit much for some tastes. For starters, the game's 25,000x max win is technically achievable in the Junkyard Bonus - if you get 5,000x on all reels and no negative symbols hit, booyah. In practice, this feature can be excruciating when values are constantly dripping downwards. Of course, the round can end in the black, but it also might end up a painful journey.

Rumble Mutts is able to provoke a wide spectrum of emotional responses, ups, downs, wins, and loses, from the buzz when the action is flowing dandily to the downer when things just aren't going your way at all in the Junkyard Bonus.

Fair

Like its sibling slot, Rumble Mutts delivers unique ways to win or lose cash, maybe even your sanity.
