Savanna Stampede Slot: Review
Originally released in January 2018 by Australian developer Reel Time Gaming, Savanna Stampede is a rather basic slot with an arcade retro feel confusingly similar to those produced by Novomatic. It was in 2017 that Blueprint Gaming, a Gauslemann owned company, released a press statement saying it would expand its gaming catalogue by adding a suite of games from its sister company Merkur Gaming. As a result, all Reel Time Gaming licensed games previously released by Merkur are now becoming available through the Blueprint platform as well.
Grab your binoculars and get that trigger finger ready as we head out on the savanna in search of big wins in this 5-reel, 10-payline slot powered by Blueprint Gaming. Basic in design, both visually and mechanically, it comes with only one feature where stacked symbols can lead to wins of up to 500 times your stake per spin. Play it on all devices, including mobile and tablets, from as little as 10 cents up to 250€ per spin.
Savanna Stampede is no visual wonder but gets the job done. With a wallpaper-like backdrop of the African savanna at sunset, you will see the usual collection of royal values as well as a selection of wild animals. In order of value are meerkats, flamingos, zebras, warthogs and buffalos. The latter is the most rewarding of the regular symbols, giving you 50 times your stake for 5 on a full payline. The lion is the wild and substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter. It is also the most rewarding, giving you 100 times your stake for 5 of a kind. Unlike the premiums, it does not appear stacked on the reels, however.
Savanna Stampede Slot: Features
The only feature to look forward to in Savanna Stampede is the Free Spins feature. On offer are 12, 15 or 20 free spins if you land 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols respectively. All animal symbols can now appear super stacked on the reels. On each spin, the Animal Stampede feature may trigger – the reels will begin to shake violently and you’ll hear a guy with an African accent call out the super stacked animal chosen for the current spin (does he call out “hot dog” when the warthog is incoming?).
That’s pretty much all there is to it. The max win from a single spin will come from a full screen of buffalos, which is worth 500 times your stake. The game has a max win of 10,000x, but that would require you to land 20 free spins of only buffalos. Good luck with that.
Savanna Stampede Slot: Final Verdict
Savanna Stampede is a simple creation that will appeal mostly to niche players who are into Novos and other old-school slots. As often is the case with this category of slots, the main game can be quite brutal as most of the RTP is allocated to the free spins feature. In other words, unless you trigger the bonus, you can expect to go home hungry.
We have to say, the bonus is a bit treacherous as it’s easy to get the impression that the stacked symbols yield such great quantities that they should hit on every Animal Stampede triggered. This is not the case as we’ve come to learn. With 40+ bonuses played, not even once did we land a full screen of any symbol.
At its best, Savanna Stampede can offer nostalgic experiences, and thrilling sessions once you get on a good run, but if you’re itching for some retro arcade machines, Fortunes of Ra by Blueprint is a much better option in our opinion.
Savanna Stampede pushes no boundaries and takes no chances, but comes out alright still.
