Sheep Gone Wild: Slot Overview

You know what's interesting? Whilst sheep might look more or less the same to non-farmers or animal enthusiasts, there are apparently around 900-1,000 different sheep breeds around the world and approximately a billion of them in total. Quite phenomenal, really, and about time they got a bit more attention in the iGaming world, hey? Stepping into the breach is casino game maker Red Tiger with Sheep Gone World. As well as featuring our woolly friends, Sheep Gone Wild also stars one of their arch nemeses - wolves, as well as gaming elements such as symbol upgrades, win multipliers, and free spins.

Not a lot of time had passed since the previous farm-based slot review, which was the sunny side up Rabbit Garden from Pragmatic Play, and Sheep Gone Wild shares a few common traits. These are mainly cosmetic, though, as Sheep Gone Wild takes place in a cheerful rural spot that papers over the less cheerful side of animal rearing or crop production. A wood-framed game grid is surrounded by farm buildings, a flock of fluffy sheep, and a tongue-out, happy as they get doggie rocking a banjo. The general vibe is positively upbeat, a common feature when it comes to playing slots with an agricultural slant.

Sheep Gone Wild slot
Sheep Gone Wild slot - base game

Sheep Gone Wild keeps the bet range fairly tight, which is generally a positive sign in terms of winning potential in a slot constructed by Red Tiger. Here stakes can be set as low as 10 p/c or as high as $/€6, and all device types are catered for. With a highly volatile math model, players can expect a theoretical return value of 95.72% - whether betting regularly or buying the bonus round.

Played on a 5-reel, 4-row gaming matrix, users get 25 paylines to land winning combinations across. When a win line made up of five matching symbols on all five reels lands, a payout of 0.8 to 1.5 times the bet is made for the 10-A card icons, or 2.4 to 8 times the bet for five of the chickens, cats, pigs, cows, and farmer symbols. So, no sheep amongst the pay symbols, but one is displayed on the wild, present on all five reels. Wilds substitute for all regular pay symbols and are worth 8x the bet for a five wild win line, bearing in mind wilds only appear via the Wolf Spins Picker Bonus or the Sheep Snatch feature.

Sheep Gone Wild: Slot Features

Sheep Gone Wild slot
Sheep Gone Wild slot - free spins pick feature

Sheep Gone Wild divides its time between its base game, where two modifiers may randomly trigger, and free Wolf Spins, where a pre-feature pick segment can lead to an augmented bonus round.

Sheep Snatch

At random on a spin, a sheep may appear on the screen for the player to click. Then, a wolf snatches the sheep, thereby awarding a modifier for the spin:

  • Symbol Transformation – all instances of one type of low-pay symbol is transformed into wild symbols.
  • Win Multiplier – a win multiplier of x2 or x3 is revealed for the current spin.

It is possible for up to 3 Sheep Snatches to appear one after the other on the same single spin. If a win multiplier is revealed more than once in a Sheep Snatch sequence, the multiplier values are stacked – up to x8. Multipliers reset for the following spin.

Wolf Spins and Picker Bonus

The final symbol in Sheep Gone Wild is the Wolf Spins scatter symbol. Landing at least 3 of them triggers the bonus round, awarding 7 free spins. Before free spins kick off, players pick from 15 sheep displayed on the screen for the wolf to snatch. The number of picks depends on how many scatter symbols triggered the feature. Picked sheep reveal:

  • Low-paying symbol types which transform into wilds every time they land during free spins.
  • Win multipliers of x2 or x3 which stack up to a maximum of x10.
  • Bonus spins - +2, +3, or +5 free spins, which are added to the initial 7 awarded.

During free spins, landing a Wolf Spins scatter awards an extra pick from the Picker Bonus of sheep which have not already been previously clicked.

Feature Buy

Hitting the Buy Feature button displays two options on the screen to choose from. One is the Sheep Snatch feature for 8x the bet, or buying Wolf Spins costs 100x the bet.

Sheep Gone Wild: Slot Verdict

It kind of feels like when a studio makes a farm slot, it's pretty much gotta be about as chipper a slot as they possibly get. If there is any truth to that sentence, then Red Tiger can consider the job done when it comes to Sheep Gone Wild. Following tradition, this is one place which sanitises out the less thrilling side of farm life, where the animals seem to actually like being where they are. Maybe they do? Fair enough, the wolf does a bit of snatching here, injecting an element of danger. But, not to fear, for those who like a farm slot's gaming environment to produce a smile while playing, Sheep Gone Wild does a solid job of doing so.

Its gameplay also does a pretty decent job of eliciting the odd smile here and there, too. While there is no official mention of frequency, the Sheep Snatch feature seemed to trigger quite often, and not just as a one-off, either. Occasionally a train of sequential Sheep Snatches would activate on the same spin to heat things up. Never to any particularly amazing degree, but often enough to keep the pace moving along. Less frequent, unsurprisingly, were free spins triggers, though Red Tiger has helpfully included the Buy Feature button for eligible armchair sheep farmers to cut to the chase should they so choose. Red Tiger has displayed a tendency in the past to put limits on the win multipliers in its games. However, even cutting the win multiplier in Sheep Gone Wild off at x10 doesn't prevent it from possessing a surprisingly high potential of 13,409.2 times the bet.

Quite a haul, showing there is money to potentially be made in sheep rearing, well, in Sheep Gone Wild's representation of it at least. There might not be much that's unmissable here, but sling it all together, and Sheep Gone Wild has cheerful merits to offer the right player.

It might not be merino wool quality, but you could knit a pretty decent sweater out of Sheep Gone Wild.
