Super Boost: Overview

Looking to make a bigger splash in 2020, London based developer Electric Elephant and Relax Gaming partner has designed Super Boost, a slot which might not look too special, to begin with. But scratch the surface to be showered in some interesting numbers. Potential is the big one, but as we all know, major stats aren’t everything. Compelling gaming driving you along the way is essential. Super Boost might have the big stat, what else has it got to offer?

Super Boost has a galactic theme, giving it a faux Starburst feel. What contributes to that are the basic looking symbols, the low key EDM soundtrack, and a view of the starry night sky out the back. On every spin, each of the 5 reels fills with 5 symbols in what looks like a mix of test tubes and the transporter system from Star Trek. Visually, Super Boost is pretty plain fare which struggles to grab much attention. The multiplier ladder to the left of the reels is probably the most intriguing element with its highest value topping x100.

Players get in on the space-themed action by setting bets from 10 p/c to £/€50 on any device. Aside from the astronomical max win, the rest of the stats are more down to earth. First is a respectable RTP rating of 96.25% coupled with high volatility. Don’t expect a meteor shower of wins to occur - the rather low 14.47% hit frequency can lead to extended patches of dead spins. However, the low hit rate is offset to a degree by cascading symbols and the progressive multiplier features.

To score a win, you need at least three adjacent matching symbols from the leftmost reel on one of the 40 fixed paylines. The symbols are pretty unimaginative, but they get the job done. On the low side are 10 – A royals which are all worth 1.5x for five of a kind. Next are two middle symbols and three major symbols. All are bright shapes of various descriptions, squares, triangles, and so on. Hit a full line here for payouts of 2.5 to 7.5 times the stake.

The most valuable symbol is the Logo wild where five of a kind gets you 30x the bet. It also substitutes for any other symbol, getting a further helping hand during the features.

Super Boost: Features

Super Boost - Mega Spin

There aren’t too many extras in this section to cover. The features revolve around cascading symbols, progressive multipliers, and Super Boost Mega Spins.

Whenever a winning combination lands, all of the symbols (not just the winning ones) on the respective reels drop to allow new ones in for another chance to win. For example, a three of a kind combo will clear all of the symbols off the first 3 reels. This cascade process continues as long as winners continue to land.

Also, after every consecutive win, the game multiplier increases - up to 100x. If at least three consecutive wins occur, they trigger a Super Boost Mega Spin. A Super Boost Free Spin is a single free spin, with 1x5, 2x5, and 3x5 stacked wilds add to the middle three reels. Whatever multiplier was accrued during the cascade sequence is applied to any wins on the Super Boost Mega Spin.

Super Boost: Verdict

Short, but sweet, is one way to describe the features. Super Boost is the kind of game that pours everything into them, so there isn’t much to spare for the base game. Combined with the low hit rate, it means there is little going on a lot of the time. When Super Boost goes, it goes though, building up cascades, multipliers, which all culminate in a Super Boost Mega Spin. You only get one free spin, so cross your fingers it’s a good one. Getting a bunch of wilds in the middle makes a huge difference, of course, where satisfying wins occurred during testing.

Yet, nothing like the mammoth numbers being thrown around by the developer. A possible 200,000x (with a €1 million cap) is massive, but how achievable is it? There is a question mark because during simulated spins by the developer, the most they squeezed out of Super Boost was 17,643 times the stake. An impressive amount in its own right, but a far cry from the 200,000x quoted. The bottom line is solid wins are possible when spinning Super Boost. But are they worth playing for?

Yes and no. If you have a good run on your first try, it's likely you're coming back for another shot on your next session. If not, Super Boost is a slot you will barely remember 2 days later. The features are kind of interesting, but their execution isn’t exceptional. It’s a bit clunky at times, and for a game with possibly monster payouts, it can be surprisingly unexciting. Due to the low hit rate plus high volatility, Super Boost is one of those games where nothing or everything happens. You either get a roll of wins on or, you watch the bankroll get sucked into a black hole. To be fair, if you can manage to build up a decent multiplier, then the single Super Boost Mega Spin can be a nail-biting experience.

Overall Super Boost is a pretty odd game. If you didn’t know about the mega potential, it would be easy to write off. But it does kind of grow on you if you get a few good Super Boost Mega Spins in. There’s not much else to it, so the gameplay becomes repetitive if you wind up endlessly chasing your tail. But, if you’re after heroic wins, and can find an operator willing to cover a possible €1 million liability, there’s no technical reason not to have a crack.

Mediocre

Super Boost has notable potential for those who like to chase mega wins, but the rest of the game isn’t quite so exciting.
