Sweet Loot: Slot Overview

It's hard to say which casino game maker has the sweetest tooth around, but software provider Pragmatic Play is definitely in the conversation. As well as being the mastermind behind mega hits such as Sweet Bonanza and Sugar Rush, the studio releases new candy games with a regularity that would make Willy Wonka envious. The current candy machine joining the fold is Sweet Loot, a scatter pays title, sweetened with a smattering of tumbles and multiplier symbols. It might sound like another Gates of Olympus event is about to take place, yet while there are links, the multiplier delivery system is different and there are way more candies in this game, too.

As well as candy, Sweet Loot is a pirate-themed release, and rarely do slot swashbucklers appear in such sweetly designed environments. A cutlass-wielding captain joins players on their adventure through a colourful, pink-heavy land where everything in sight appears to be edible. Pragmatic Play has an extensive collection of candy slots, and it knows how to make a game that sears the eyeballs as it virtually does the teeth. Sweet Loot is one of them, which almost gets lost amidst the sweetness, but it has the sort of interlinking gameplay that manages to help avoid it from being completely buried in sugar.

Sweet Loot is a medium volatile slot played on a grid that has a 6x5 main area and a four-cell row on the top. Wins are created when 8+ matching symbols land anywhere, which then get removed from the grid. Gaps are filled by a symbol drop, which carries on in this way until no new win is created. With an RTP of 96.53% by default, stakes of $/€0.20 to $/€240 are available to select.

On the paytable, we find bottles, hooks, wheels, anchors, skulls, and crossed swords candy, then four happy as they can be character symbols. Land an 8-9 OAK winning combination and the rewards are 0.25x to 10x the bet. Do so with 12 or more matching symbols and 2.5x to 100x is what you get. No substituting occurs in Sweet Loot since wilds are not present on any reel strip.

Sweet Loot: Slot Features

Sweet Loot's feature loot consists of multiplier symbols, free spins, super free spins, special bets, and feature buys.

Multiplier Symbols

Random multipliers of x2 to x500 can appear attached to pay symbols on the top four-position row. If symbols with a multiplier are part of a win, the win is multiplied by the sum of all multipliers part of it.

Free Spins

Scatters are present on all reels while super scatters may only appear on the top row. Hitting 4, 5, or 6 scatters in the base game awards 10, 20, or 30 free spins plus a payout of 3x, 10x, or 100x the bet, respectively. If at least one of the triggering scatters is a super scatter, then the round is considered a super free spins round. During free spins, at least one symbol on the top row is guaranteed to have a multiplier on each spin. In super free spins, all symbols on the top row will have a multiplier with a minimum value of x10. Hitting 3 or more scatters during the feature awards +5 free spins.

Special Bets & Feature Buys

There are four special bets in Sweet Loot. They are the Ante Bet 1, doubling the chance of triggering any version of free spins for 1.25x the stake, and Ante Bet 2, making the chance of any free spins version 7x higher for 4x the bet. Then there is Super Spin 1 at 20x to guarantee all symbols on the top row have a multiplier, while Super Spin 2 costs 200x to guarantee a multiplier of at least x50 on all symbols on the top row. Free spins cannot trigger from Super Spins. Gamblers can also buy into the free spins round for 100x or super free spins for 500x the stake.

Sweet Loot: Slot Verdict

Yep, Sweet Loot is another candy-coated creation from Pragmatic Play, but this time the well-worn sugary setting is combined with a pirate theme and has a somewhat evolved multiplier mechanic attached to the side. The result is a visually loud slot that crams in ideas from all over the place. Well, there's piracy and candy, which you don't see every day, mashed together into an easy-to-digest scatter pays game. Just as the studio is all over the sweet theme, it also dominates in the scatter pays space, but Sweet Loot does enough to avoid gaining Sweet Bonanza/Gates of Olympus pretender status. Intrigue is aroused by the upper row, acting as both extra room to land symbols and the place where multipliers appear, before putting the rest of the pieces of the puzzle together.

It's not an especially complicated puzzle at that. The gameplay loops around scatter wins and tumbles, before multipliers leap in to do their thing. Is it a better system than what players had access to before? In the base game, not really. Multipliers appear at random in that phase like they do on the main grid of other similarly-styled games, though they are linked to symbols here rather than acting as general multipliers. However, the situation brightens up, if that is visually possible, when the bonus rounds are active, for the simple reason that at least one multiplier will hit on every free spin or at least four will when super spins are in play. Of course this doesn't mean Sweet Lord is guaranteed to spew forth treasure in those modes, but knowing there will be at least one (or four, depending on the bonus) multiplier gives players something quite sweet to look forward to.

Finish off with the trademark Pragmatic Play gleam, and a win cap of 10,000x the bet, and you've got a scatter pays slot which holds up fairly well compared to others the studio has designed. Sweet Loot doesn't feel like it has the juice to be the next big thing in the scatter/tumble/multiplier arena, but it might appeal to gamblers who have warmed to previous Prag releases in this area.
