Trophy Fish: Slot Overview
Online gambling is a little like living on a small island; you're never far from the sea, or at least, never far from about 500 fishing slots. As if there weren't enough of them already, software provider Red Tiger has made one more, going by the name of Trophy Fish. Yes, this is another slot that awards Fish money symbol values when they land alongside a Fisherman collector symbol. However, despite the prominence of this style of play, thanks in large part to series such as Big Bass Bonanza and Fishin' Frenzy, big winning potential and rules alterations help put a relatively individual spin on Trophy Fish.
It seems that unless a studio employs a Picasso of pixels or possesses a strong desire to be different, the fish slots they turn out tend to look quite similar to about fifty others. So it is with Trophy Fish, which, while looking absolutely fine, doesn't float above the competition graphically. Players get bubble-lined reels, blue water, seaside stuff, a fisherman and some fish. As stated, the view is perfectly fine, but nothing out of the ordinary has been provided to lay your eyes on.

Money symbol wins might be where it's at, but Trophy Fish also awards dough for landing combinations of matching pay symbols from the leftmost reel along its 20 paylines. The grid itself is a 5x3 configured matrix, and players can choose a stake of 10 c to $/€4 before setting the reels in motion. With a default RTP of 95%, the math model is a highly volatile game.
Trophy Fish's pay symbols include 10-A royals, a hook, a net, a reel, a bag, and a boat. Winning combinations of 5 OAK pay 2.5 to 3 times the stake for 5 royals or 5 to 50 times the stake for landing 5 matching premium symbols in a line.
Trophy Fish: Slot Features

One critical dude in Trophy Fish is the Fisherman Wild. The wild can only land in the middle position of the middle reel, and it substitutes for all paying symbols. When the Fisherman Wild is in view, he catches all Fish symbols on the reels, awarding their values.
Fish Symbols
Fish symbols land with monetary values. They can appear anywhere except the very central position. When a Fish lands, it locks in its position for 2 spins. Landing a Fish symbol also resets the lock counter of all other Fish symbols on the reels back to 2. Locked Fish symbols are unlocked when caught by the Fisherman. Various types of Fish symbols may land:
- Cash Fish - Cash Fish have instant prize values representing bet multipliers. The possible values are 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x the bet. Their combined value is awarded when the Fisherman catches them.
- Trophy Fish - Trophy Fish are the big win symbols and come in four types: Blue Trophy Fish - 50x; Green Trophy Fish - 100x; Red Trophy Fish - 250x; Purple Trophy Fish - 1,000x.
- Golden Fish - As well as having the same possible values as Cash Fish, caught Golden Fish increase the prize multiplier displayed above the reels. Up to 4 Golden Fish may land at the same time. The prize multiplier is applied to the total value of all caught cash prizes. Catching 1, 2, 3, or 4 Golden Fish grants a multiplier of x3, x5, x10, or x20, respectively.
Free Spins
Each Free Spins Fish caught by the Fisherman awards 8 free spins. For the free spins round, the Fisherman Wild is locked in position in the centre of the grid for the full duration, catching any fish symbols that land. Each Free Spins Fish caught awards a further +8 free spins. During the feature, the prize multiplier awarded by catching Golden Fish remains active for the duration of the bonus and applies to any Fish prizes caught by the Fisherman. Up to 4 Golden Fish in total may appear in free spins, increasing the multiplier as in the base game.

Trophy Fish: Slot Verdict
Apologies for being 'that guy', but going into a fishing-themed slot for the umpteenth time, this one made by Red Tiger, didn't exactly get the blood pumping with excitement through the system. Interestingly, Trophy Fish turned out to be not awful. From the outset, let's say the game does not flip the fish slot category on its head the way Big Bass Bonanza completely altered; well, everything fish on the reels related when it was released. Trophy Fish doesn't come with ragingly brand-new mechanics, either. The primary goal remains landing a Fisherman symbol to collect any Fish prize values in view. But, built around the core collection concept are a few tweaks that help revive the gameplay, transforming the experience into not brand new as such, but maybe like standing on a different part of the jetty before casting your reel off.
Another thing which boosts the game's appeal is a hearty 20,752x max multiplier. Didn't see that coming, and this number puts Trophy Fish in the same neighbourhood as slots such as BTG's Golden Catch or Nolimit City's Ugliest Catch, ish. It's clear how this amount might be achieved, too. Hit the Purple Trophy Fish while the x20 multiplier is active, and you're basically there. Not that reaching x20 during free spins or catching an elusive Purple Trophy Fish is going to be like shooting fish in a barrel, but both are at least theoretically within the realms of possibility.
And there we have it, another fish slot in the bag. Sure, Trophy Fish is based on a Fisherman Wild collecting Fish money symbols again, and sure, the bonus round is where an increasing catch multiplier may be activated, again, so the features are familiar. But, the impressive winning potential and a general shake-up of how the game functions prevent Trophy Fish from being the stale, week-old, rancid fillet no one wants to eat it could have been.
Trophy Fish doesn't flip what we know about fishing slots on its head, but impressive potential and a rules refresh make it one for armchair anglers to enjoy.
