4 Wolves of Fortune: Slot Overview

Online slot 4 Wolves of Fortune might sound like a game designed by 4ThePlayer that exclusively uses numbers to start its titles, but it actually comes off competitor studio Yggdrasil Gaming's production line. Sad to say, finding out the slot was made by a different casino game maker is about the last hint of a surprise players are likely to experience around here. The reason why is that 4 Wolves of Fortune is more or less a direct copy of Raptor DoubleMax, except wolves and canyons skin the Dropdown Wins, DoubleMax Multiplier mechanics instead of prehistoric beasts.

Wolves are found throughout North America and Eurasia, and it is the former part of the world players find themselves in for 4 Wolves of Fortune. As well as wolves, a Native American touch can be found on the wild symbol, while the action has been set in the wilderness, in a land of canyons and rock spreading as far as the eye can see. The Grand Canyon is a possible real-world comparison, and on the subject of theme treatment, 4 Wolves of Fortune evokes a mood, though it's a fairly generic one, as far as wolves, Native American culture and canyons go in online gambling.

4 Wolves of Fortune slot - base game

4 Wolves of Fortune is a highly volatile slot that takes bets of 20c to $/€50 per spin. For an extra 25% on the stake, however, players can activate the Golden Bet to double the chance of triggering the free spins feature, which is considerably more intense than the base game. Winning combinations are evaluated by 25 paylines on a 5x3 gaming area, linking to an RTP of 96%.

Hitting a line of 5 matching J-A card ranks pays 1 to 1.2 times the stake, rising to 2 to 5 times the bet when a line of 5 matching high pay wolves hits. There are, you got it, four different wolf symbols, coloured blue, green, purple, and red. Wilds help pull together winning lines, since they're able to substitute for all of the paying symbols.

4 Wolves of Fortune: Slot Features

4 Wolves of Fortune's features are a stock standard DoubleMax mix of Dropdown Wins, DoubleMax Multiplier, free spins, gamble option, and bonus buy.

Dropdown Wins

The Dropdown Wins system removes winning symbols from the reels, making spaces for new symbols to drop down to fill, and this provides another chance to win something. Before symbols drop, a wild is placed in one of the winning positions. Dropdown Wins will repeat as long as a new win appears on the grid.

DoubleMax Multiplier

Every Dropdown Win doubles the total multiplier, which starts at x1. In the base game, the total multiplier resets after a losing spin or Dropdown.

Free Spins

Hitting 3, 4, or 5 scatters in the base game awards 7, 10, or 13 free spins with a starting win multiplier of x1, respectively. When entering the round, players may gamble for more free spins, unless they have already won 13 of them. Lost gambles forfeit the feature, winning gambles move to the higher amount, up to 13. During free spins, the DoubleMax Multiplier does not reset until the entire feature ends. Scatters do not appear during free spins, so the round cannot be retriggered.

Feature Buy

Players are able to buy into the bonus round by paying 100 times their bet in order to get 7 free spins. Like triggering the feature organically, it is possible to gamble for more free spins after buying them.

4 Wolves of Fortune: Slot Verdict

Sorry, 4 Wolves of Fortune, but this was a disappointing release. We don't review a ton of Yggdrasil Gaming slots, as its output appears to have slowed, and getting what amounts to a Raptor DoubleMax repeat with an average theme layered over the top was just a bit sad. No disrespect to the art and audio team, 4 Wolves of Fortune looks and sounds fine, but the desire to settle into an attractively rendered North American countryside dwindled when it became apparent that 4 Wolves of Fortune's gameplay was a repeat.

In and of itself, yes, fine, the fusion of Dropdowns, wild placement, and doubling of the win multipliers is an excellent one. Yggdrasil Gaming knocked it out of the park when they designed Raptor DoubleMax, and some of the latter slots that used the feature have been doozies as well. Barbarossa/Barbarossa Revenge, from Peter & Sons, are two fine examples that took the DoubleMax skeleton and built strong games on top. 4 Wolves of Fortune is another playable example of this particular style, but it's tough to impossible to call it a strong game, on account of the complete absence of technical evolution or mechanical ingenuity.

As mentioned, though, 4 Wolves of Fortune is certainly playable enough if you like this sort of thing; it has a big 20,000x win cap, and runs of consecutive wins that blow the rising DoubleMax multiplier through the roof are likely to be just as exhilarating here as anywhere else. All fine and dandy when considering the game in a vacuum, in other words, but 4 Wolves of Fortune does reinforce feelings of a studio slowly slipping back from the cutting edge to rest on its laurels.

4 Wolves of Fortune's reskinning of Raptor DoubleMax feels like the definition of a provider resting on its laurels.
