True Grit Redemption 2: Slot Overview

Released in 2021, Nolimit City's True Grit Redemption told a harrowing tale of vengeance involving a beaten and bloody Greta Thunberg lookalike and a pack of dastardly ne'er-do-wells, led by a Bill 'The Butcher' Cutting lookalike. It was cold, it was bleak, a little nasty, not exactly a ray of sunshine type of slot that would thematically lift the spirits. It was, however, mechanically sound, and Nolimit City has chosen to revisit this grim game world a second time around. What it's come back with is True Grit Redemption 2, an equally grim sequel that rides again for vengeance with some new tricks in its saddlebag.

True Grit Redemption 2 is set 15 years after the original, and its base game takes place in a snowy, cold area at what looks like a wooden fort or some such location. The characters have taken on more of a cartoonish look than the original, softening the audiovisual blow in some ways, but make no mistake, these people mean business, nefarious business. Few make these sorts of Wild West, living on a jagged knife-edge of a heartless existence slots like Nolimit City does, and True Grit Redemption 2 is another one that is the antithesis of a feel-good, happy ending game. That is, unless you're rooting for the Hunter and Redemption Girl getting their way as they carve through the crew, one by one, via the count-up sequence.

The game is played on a 6x4 grid, though 6 locked box positions mean the spin starts with symbols landing in a 2-3-4-4-3-2 formation. This provides 576 ways to win, a number which grows when boxes are unlocked and symbols are split. There are many ways to play the game, starting with base bet selection of $/€0.20 to $/€100, before going over the Boosters and bonus buys. The studio has stuck with 'extreme' volatility, while the RTP is 96.07%.

On the paytable are 9-A playing card royals, awarding 0.2x to 0.3x the stake for landing 6-of-a-kind winning combinations. Up from them are six character symbols paying 0.5x to 1x the stake for hitting 6 OAK. An avalanche system is in play, which removes winning symbols, causing symbols to drop down and replace them. Avalanches continue as long as new wins appear.

True Grit Redemption 2: Slot Features

Players who like having loads of features at their fingertips should be pleased with True Grit Redemption 2's haul. The extras are made up of an Enhancer Reel, symbol multipliers, xBombs, xSplit, xWays, Toxic xWays, Infectious xWays, xWilds, Redemption Girl, the Hunter, Rat, Rat King, free spins, Extra Spins, Boosters, and Nolimit Bonus buys.

Features

  • Enhancer Reel - The Enhancer Reel sits at the top of the main grid, and is where special symbols, such as xSplit, xWays, Toxic xWays, Infectious xWays, Rat, King Rat, and Hunter symbols may appear. These special symbols become active when they fall onto the reels during avalanches.
  • Symbol Multipliers - Each new symbol falls in with the same multiplier as the global multiplier. The global multiplier starts at x1 and increases by 1 after each win or when certain special symbols appear, as detailed below.
  • xBomb - An exploding xBomb removes adjacent symbols except for wild, Reckoning Girl and scatter symbols, also increasing the win multiplier by one for the next collapse. Locked boxes that are adjacent to the xBomb are removed by explosions.
  • Rat & Rat King - When 4 or more Rat or Rat King symbols land, they are removed, and the total of each Rat and Rat King's multipliers is added to the global multiplier. Rat symbols may have multipliers of x1 to x5, while Rat King multipliers are 15x, 20x or 25x. If split, the number of Rat or Rat Kings in the affected position doubles, though their multiplier is not affected.
  • xSplit, xWays & xWild - An xSplit symbol splits all other symbols in its row. This doubles the multiplier on the split symbols. Once activated, xSplit symbols turn into regular paying symbols. Splitting also opens locked boxes on its row. An xWays symbol reveals a random paying symbol with a starting multiplier which is the same as the global multiplier. It then adds a multiplier of x2, x3, or x4 to itself. If there is more than one xWays symbol in view, all xWays symbols reveal the same symbol. Moreover, an xWild symbol converts all symbols on the same reel to wild symbols, keeping their multipliers. xWild symbols do not affect scatters, Reckoning Girl, Rat and Rat King symbols.
  • Toxic xWays - A Toxic xWays symbol also reveals a random paying symbol with a starting multiplier which is the same as the global multiplier. It then adds x2 to itself and all instances of the revealed symbol on the grid. If there is more than one Toxic xWays symbol, all Toxic xWays symbols reveal the same symbol.
  • Infectious xWays - An Infectious xWays symbol reveals a random paying symbol with a starting multiplier which is the same as the global multiplier. It then doubles the multiplier of all instances of the revealed symbol on the grid. Infectious xWays symbols only appear during Vengeance Spins and Redemption Spins. If more than one Infectious xWays symbol lands, all Infectious xWays symbols reveal the same symbol.
  • Redemption Girl - Redemption Girl symbols are wild, and they take multipliers from all symbols (not Rat multipliers) on the grid, then add them to themselves. If a Redemption Girl is involved in a win, its multiplier is added to the global multiplier for the next collapse.
  • The Hunter - The Hunter symbol only appears in the enhancer row or locked boxes. When in view, it adds a multiplier of x50 to itself and each symbol on the grid, as well as the global multiplier. The Hunter symbol does not affect Redemption Girl, Rat, Rat King and scatter symbols.

Free Spins

Landing 3 scatters triggers 7 Reckoning Spins, 4 scatters trigger 10 Vengeance Spins, while 5 scatters award 12 Redemption Spins.

  • Reckoning Spins - During this bonus, the global multiplier persists between spins, and any unlocked boxes stay unlocked until the round ends.
  • Vengeance Spins - This round has the same features as Reckoning Spins, plus locked boxes on the two rightmost reels are opened when the bonus triggers, and Infectious xWays may appear in the enhancer row.
  • Redemption Spins - This round has the same features as Vengeance Spins, except all locked boxes are opened when the bonus triggers.

Xtra Spin

When a round ends, players may have the chance to buy an additional spin, which keeps the global multiplier and the opened boxes. The cost depends on the global multiplier and number of opened boxes, and the Extra Spin is only offered if the cost is less than or equal to the win on the previous spin.

Bonus Boosters & Feature Buys

The Bonus Booster costs 1.5x the bet to guarantee a scatter on reel 2. For 7.5x, 30x, or 1,869x the bet, players can activate Gritty Spins, Grittier Spins, or Grittiest Spins, which guarantee an x5, x20, or x500 multiplier on the global multiplier and all symbols except Redemption Girl, Rat, Rat King and scatters. The four feature buys are Reckoning Spins, Vengeance Spins, Redemption Spins, or lucky draw for 66x, 239x, 669x, or 260x the stake, respectively.

True Grit Redemption 2: Slot Verdict

Nolimit City has been on a real sequel burn of late, racking up slots like Das xBoot 2, The Crypt 2, Punk Rocker 3, San Quentin Manhunt, and Tombstone Begins. True Grit Redemption 2 is a follow-up which brings new things that returning players can enjoy alongside bits they might not be so thrilled by. For example, Nolimit City is committed to the Extra Spin concept, which is a divisive feature amongst certain gamblers, and the exclusion of xNudge Wilds might have people scratching their heads. However, True Grit Redemption 2 boasts a ton of x-feature action, and its revamps and redesigns have produced a slot every bit as muscular as the first, with a variety of components that can converge to dispense vengeance.

One of True Grit Redemption 2's focal points is building multipliers in symbol positions through various means. xNudges are out, amplifying the appeal of the other xWays symbols, particularly the new Toxic version. The Hunter and Redemption Girl symbols play an important role in the process as well, boosting multipliers, before the two Rat symbols take everything one step further. Basically, there are a lot of ways to expand multiplier values, coupled with symbol splitting and explosions, climaxing in that unique way Nolimit City slots have of going nuclear when all cylinders are firing. So, while the True Grit game world is one where happy endings don't seem to exist, triggering the Redemption Found max win, which at 34,000x the bet, is substantially higher than the original's total, should put a smile on the face.

It's a cold, hard, uncaring world we live in where laws are written by whoever is holding the biggest gun and justice only applies to those with the savage will to take it. At least, that's the world of True Grit Redemption 2, a sequel just as capable of plumbing humanity's depths as it is of soaring the xMechanic heights. As such, True Grit Redemption 2 is not designed for casual players looking for an uplifting spin. It is an 'extremely' volatile, mechanically dense machine that builds on the original's harsh persona with its own unforgiving, cold-hearted merits.
