Bananaz 10K Ways: Slot Overview

Like planting a flag in a piece of ground and declaring it's yours, developer ReelPlay rolls on, cornering their trademarked 10,000 ways segment of the market with a slot titled Bananaz 10K Ways. This is the third slot in the range, following on from Hypernova 10K Ways and 10,000 Wonders 10K Ways – both of which failed to impress. Now, we're back for round three in another game offering the same number of ways and another hold & win bonus game. However, whereas 10,000 Wonders was essentially a clone, the studio has done something new-ish for Bananaz. So, while there are similarities, there is at least some originality going on here, sort of, let's see.

Right away, there's more life and character in Bananaz 10K Ways than there was in the previous two games - largely provided by the game's main character, Monkey Mike. This cute wee simian sits on a branch next to the grid, watching the action, squawking away, and in rare moments triggering his own potentially effective feature. Bananaz 10K Ways is a jungle-based game, so thick green foliage makes up the background, palm trees, butterflies, fireflies, and the like. A happy go lucky tune plays in the background, and while there's nothing remarkable at first glance, a playful warmth drew us in. Visually, it has more in common with their recent hit Money Mariachi Infinity Reels more so than the previous games in the 10K series, which is a positive thing.

One thing these games all replicate is their reel set-up. All come with a main grid made up of 6-reels, and 4-rows, with an upper reel holding 4 extra positions. It's all very Megaways looking; whether by coincidence or design is a topic of debate. Where ReelPlay's system differs from Big Time Gaming's is that the number of symbols on each reel is always the same, so players get a constant 10,000 ways to win no matter what. They also get a highly volatile math model, producing an RTP of 96.1%, increasing to 97% for the feature buy.

Playable from 20 p/c to $/€12 per spin, in these 10K games, winning ways form when matching symbols land in adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. At least three are needed for the low pay card suit tiles worth 0.5 to 0.9x the bet for six of a kind, and the higher value fruits, flowers, snakes, and toucan symbols, range in value from 1 to 5 times your stake for six. The elephant is the anomaly, as just two are needed to create a win, and a six elephant symbol combination gets you 50x your bet.

Bananaz 10K Ways: Slot Features

Our buddy Money Mike appears in the game as the wild symbol, but only when the Mike Goes Bananaz feature is triggered. Other features include cascades, a Bonus Respins round, a gamble feature, and a buy bonus.

Mike Goes Bananaz

On any non-winning spin, there is a chance Mike Goes Bananaz randomly triggers. When it does, 1-3 symbols on the grid are changed into wild Monkey Mike symbols which substitute any normal pay symbol. Each Monkey Mike symbol also has a random multiplier of x1-x5 attached, applied to any win it is part of. If more than one Monkey Mike symbol is used in a winning combination, the multipliers are multiplied. Monkey Mike symbols never replace scatter symbols, and do not appear on reel number 1.

Each winning combination pops off the grid by the cascade feature, allowing new and remaining symbols to drop down into the vacated spots. Cascades continue to trigger as long as new wins form up.

Bonus Respins

When 4 or more Banana Bunch scatter symbols hit, the Bonus Respins feature triggers. Triggering symbols transform into Banana symbols displaying bet multipliers of 1-1,000x, and 3 spins are awarded. During the round, only Banana symbols or Monkey Mike symbols may hit. When they do, they lock in place and reset the spin count. Monkey Mike symbols collect the value of all prize symbols in view when they land. The round ends when all positions are filled or spins run out.

Gamble Feature

When Bonus Respins end, players are given a chance to gamble their winnings if they would like to. A wheel divided into green and black segments spins. Successful gambles move players along a multiplier trail up to x5, while unsuccessful gambles can lead to losing all of the winnings.

Buy Bonus

Players in permitted territories may choose to buy a Bonus Respins feature for the cost of 100 times the total stake. This lands at least four Banana Bunch symbols, and players can gamble winnings with Respins end as normal.

Bananaz 10K Ways: Slot Verdict

Gotta say we didn't go into Bananaz with high hopes after the other two 10K games but were surprised by having a pretty decent time. Not to say Bananaz is a great game as such, but we had low expectations, and the game actually turned out to be alright. For a cute, hold & win game with solid winning potential Bananaz 10K Ways isn't a bad option. The game blurb describes Bananaz 10K Ways as a 'core gamblers slot under a soft veneer', and this is a good way of summing things up.

To be clear, Bananaz is a basic slot with a basic hold & win feature. Sure, Mike Goes Bananaz is a possibility in the base game, yet at times it feels like a talking monkey would be less rare. Technically, if a winning line contained three x5 Monkey Mikes multiplying each other, the winning potential could be significant, which would partially account for the rarity of the feature triggering. Still, smaller single Money Mikes at shorter intervals would've been appreciated. Perhaps luck just wasn't on our side that day.

It certainly wasn't on our side when it came to the gamble feature, which annihilated us every single time. The highest value achieved was the x2 before falling back to 0 with alarming regularity. Not trying to put anyone off it, but the gamble feature was rough going. The actual Bonus Respins were more positive, though again, it was tough to end in the black when buying them rather than just triggering them naturally. They can potentially land way in the black, though, if the 20,000x max win potential is anything to go by.

In summation, Bananaz 10K Ways felt like an improvement on past 10K games with a fun, cheeky monkey vibe and decent rewards on offer. It is basic, however, so perhaps better suited to players after a simple respin feature or those looking for a challenging buy bonus with a chance for some post feature gambling.

Bananaz puts ReelPlay’s 10K Ways series on a more positive path, being a higher-stakes gambling vehicle with a bigger heart than its two predecessors.
