Bonus Bunnies: Overview

Head back to the farm in Bonus Bunnies, a light-hearted game full of livestock, farmers, and crops from developer Nolimit City. The studio known for cranking out some insane slots dials it back a notch or two for Bonus Bunnies which some might find a bit light on action. Still, not every beast can be a wild man-eater. Some need to be, well, bunnies. Keeping this in mind, let's yank on the wellies for an agrarian journey to see what this slot is capable of.

First up, a diversion. We do like to deep dive each game that crosses the desk, and while researching Bonus Bunnies, we came across some strange carrot lore. For one, the humble carrot hasn't always been orange. During the 16th century, Dutch growers took mutant strains of the then purple vegetable and gradually turned them orange over time due to selective breeding. It gets stranger. All of the beta-carotene in them won't make you see in the dark, but too many can actually turn your skin an orange shade.

Bonus Bunnies likely won't turn you orange, but possibly red or white in the face depending on your session. Playable from 20 p/c up to $/€100 per spin, the game offers a bonus buy option that affects the RTP. On default mode, players enjoy a setting of 96.14%, increasing to 96.43% if the feature buy is activated. However, the game may be configured at a lower rate of 94.22%, so make sure to check.

Nolimit City is a developer that very helpfully displays the volatility of their games, so players know what they are getting into. In the case of Bonus Bunnies, we get a medium+ volatile math model, which might not be as fearsome as you typically expect from these guys. The hit frequency, meanwhile, is a little low on 18.2%, although thankfully, the bonus frequency is not too far out at 1 in 179 spins on average.

Booting up Bonus Bunnies did bring our mind to Push Gaming's Fat Rabbit. Not just because of the agricultural/bunny references, but also because of the way the bunny moves across the reels along with other subtle details. Either way, gameplay starts with bunches of carrots hanging from the timber-framed 4x4 grid before spreading like an invasive weed. From there we move into a veritable vegetable patch of symbols including tomatoes, peas, aubergines, onions, and A-10 royals.

Due to the format, only combinations of three or four are possible over the game's 30 paylines. You really want the 4 of a kind too since the difference between the two is striking. For example, the tomato is the most valuable at 0.90x for three of a kind, compared to 15x for a line of four. Like the tomato, wild symbols pay out 15x for four of a kind, while also being able to substitute for any regular pay symbol.

Bonus Bunnies: Features

Matching the laid back country vibe, Bonus Bunnies' feature list is a relatively short one containing just Bonus + Wild Expansions, and Carrot Link Spins.

The Bonus + Wild Expansion feature is a little like the growing wild symbol found in Fat Rabbit. Rabbits enter the game as the scatter symbol. If a scatter symbol appears at the same time as a wild, the rabbit bounds out of the scatter frame (turning it wild), hops over to the wild and eats it. When he does so, the whole reel turns wild. If two or more bonus symbols land, then both the reel and the row which contains the wild is turned wild.

If you're familiar with Relax Gaming's Money Train you'll have a good idea of what to expect from the Carrot Link Spins bonus. The feature initially awards 3 spins when triggered by having 3 or more bonus symbols in view. The original bonus symbols that triggered the feature are turned into carrot symbols, displaying a multiplier of the total bet. All other positions are changed into empty tiles. On each spin, it is possible to land one of these symbols in the empty spaces:

  • Extra carrots with bet multipliers.
  • Harvesters which collect all of the multipliers already in view, essentially doubling the amount.
  • Fertilizers who add their multiplier value to each of the carrot symbols present.
  • Settlers who add another row or reel to the setup.

Each time a new symbol lands, spins are reset back to 3. The feature ends when the grid is full, or there are no spins left - then the collected multiplier is applied. If all positions are full, then the last symbol that may fall is a key which unlocks a chest to award a multiplier of x3, x4, or x5 applied to the total collected multiplier amount.

As mentioned previously, Bonus Bunnies may be available with a feature buy option known as the Nolimit Bonus. For the reasonable sum of 60 times the stake, players can pay to trigger Carrot Link Spins on the next spin.

Bonus Bunnies: Verdict

Bonus Bunnies is quite a departure from Nolimit City's high powered releases. As a result, the game will probably appeal to a slightly different crowd to say, Barbarian Fury or Punk Rocker. We did not find Bonus Bunnies to be nearly as exciting as the games mentioned. The features are few, and when they trigger, they do the opposite of blowing your socks off. To be fair, fun was had activating the bonus feature through the bonus buy option, which bypasses a tedious base game while improving the RTP.

By bigger wins, the stated potential is quite good at up to 6,950 times the stake. Though the way the features work, it is hard to see how you can strike those levels of reward. They probably won’t be hit from the Bonus + Wild Expansions. So, that leaves the Carrot Link Spins to pick up the slack, where you will need an immense number of carrots and modifiers. Even then, it's hard to see quite how 6,950x or anything in that area would be possible.

Fair enough, not all slots can be highly volatile beasts. Developers need to branch out into other niches of the market as well of course. Yet, despite the stated potential being quite high, Bonus Bunnies probably isn't suited to those looking for mega wins, or thrills. From the gentle banjo filled soundtrack to the cute characters, Bonus Bunnies is all about chilling out on the farm and admiring the scenery. If you want more from a slot than a chilled time; it's probably best looking elsewhere.

Fair

Although superbly executed, Bonus Bunnies is a slot that will undoubtedly divide Nolimit fans.
