Rainforest Magic (Play'n GO): Overview

Play'n GO shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, the production rate even seems to be accelerating. In September alone, the studio has four scheduled titles coming up; Hugo's Adventure, Inferno's Joker, Mission Cash, and Demon. That's one new game every Thursday of the month! It's not only Play'n GO that has stepped up the game, though. They're merely adjusting to new industry trends where the life-span of a game is shorter than that of a dragonfly and where players get bored and move on after a couple of days.

Although the Swedish studio has been playing it a bit safe, often sticking to a familiar formula, it has worked out quite well for them. One such game that we're speaking of is Rainforest Magic. There's no real originality or innovative ideas behind it, and it's certainly not going to become a classic, but it's a workhorse slot that comfortably relies on the successful formula that has made Play'n GO one of the most in-demand providers out there.

In Rainforest Magic, Play'n GO has provided you with a window to the Central American jungle. Played using a 5x3 format tied together with 25 fixed paylines, it comes with mystery symbols that reveal random matching symbols. The highlight, however, is the free spins round where up to four mystery reels can appear. Highly volatile, you can spin the reels from between 25 cents and €100 on any device, including Android and iOS.

While there's no mention of the Mayan culture anywhere, it undoubtedly has a Mesoamerican feel to it. The reels, which are encased in stone to make it look like an ancient temple, are surrounded by dense vegetation, glistering foliage and colourful flowers. It's not the most spectacular scenery we've ever seen in a slot machine, but it's well-designed nonetheless. On the reels you'll see 4 classic card suit symbols alongside more valuable creatures of the forest. These include green snakes, yellow toucans, parrots, and blue frogs. The banana-eating monkey is the most rewarding, giving you 20 times your stake for five across a full payline. The jaguar is the wild, it appears on all reels and substitutes for all other symbols on the paytable. It will also provide you with 40 times your stake for a five of a kind combination.

Rainforest Magic (Play'n GO): Features

Mystery symbol feature

As we have seen recently in Thunderkick's Raiders of the Storm to name one example, Mystery Symbols are starting to make their way into an increasing number of slots from several providers, a feature that has been made popular by Blueprint Gaming. You'll find them in Rainforest Magic as well. When the question mark symbols appear in view, all instances of it will transform into random matching symbols, including the wild.

Triggering the Free Spins round is not achieved by landing scatter symbols, but with the help of the wilds. If you see 3 or more of them anywhere in view in the base game, the Guns N' Roses hit song Welcome to the Jungle will start playing and...no, just kidding - although that would be kind of neat, wouldn't it. What really happens is that you will gain access to the free spins game and your number of starting spins is decided by how many wilds you have landed on the triggering spin - 3 wilds will give you 6 free spins and each additional wild gives you 2 extra spins each up to a maximum of 30 spins.

Before you get underway, you will get to choose from four flowers. This will reveal how many Mystery Reels that will be active during the round which can be anything between 1 - 4. During gameplay, these mystery reels will shift position on every spin and reveal random matching symbols when the reels come to a stop. If you manage to fill all reels with wilds, you'll pocket a win of 1000 times your stake. Do it five times in the same round and you will have reached the maximum win of 5000x.

Rainforest Magic (Play'n GO): Verdict

As mentioned before, Rainforest Magic is a rather typical slot from Play'n GO. The theme and features may be new, but if you've spent some time playing slots from this particular provider, your neurons will probably register the underlying mathematical patterns. In no way does this mean that Rainforest Magic is a bad slot, it's actually quite decent. It's just that it's not a very exciting release for veteran players than have seen this setup, or something similar to it, countless of times before. Will we be playing it? Of course we will. But just like the dragonfly, the life of this slot will be short and intensive.

Good

There’s enough spark in Rainforest Magic to please fans of the high variance genus.
