LeoVegas Megaways (Blueprint Gaming): Overview
Every now and then you'll see LeoVegas release an exclusive slot under its Original series. Not long ago it was Wild Mantra, a rather disappointing slot produced by Yggdrasil, and going further back we've seen exclusives from big providers such as Play'n GO and NetEnt. For some mysterious reason, these titles usually end up being quite mediocre as their either clones or just straight up awful. LeoVegas latest original, simply dubbed LeoVegas Megaways, turns out to be the former.
Using Bonanza as the template, Blueprint Gaming has unleashed a spree of variations with titles such as Tiki Treasures Megaways, Wolf Legend Megaways, Temple of Treasure Megaways, Primal Megaways - the list goes on and on. In LeoVegas Megaways, you get more of the same and, of course, the setup is all too familiar by now. Utilising 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win, you're invited to the glamorous world that is LeoVegas Casino where you can benefit from cascading reels, a newly introduced Megaways wheel, free spins with unlimited multipliers, and an option to buy your way into the bonus round. You can play it on all devices from between 20 cents to 100€ per spin.
LeoVegas Megaways is built using the Megaways engine developed by Big Time Gaming. It probably needs no introduction by now, but for those who are new to the world of online gaming, here follows a short rundown. What's made it so popular is that every spin will produce a random number of win ways up to a whopping 117,649 Megaways. This is possible due to the fact that every reel can appear between 2 to 7 symbols high. Fully expanded, it's possible to hit wins of well over 1000 times your stake in the main game, and with the addition of multipliers in the bonus, it gets even crazier. The game also uses a cascading symbols mechanic where any winning combination will set in motion a chain reaction - winning symbols are removed and replaced with new ones. This continues until no new winning combinations appear on the reels. Look above the reel set and you'll also see an extra reel that will help you land winning combinations.
Visually, the game has been customized to blend in with the LeoVegas casino design. With a colour palette of red to orange, you'll see the distinguished LeoVegas lion's head logo strategically placed on the bonus buy button as well as on the spin button. On the reels you'll see the usual lower value 9 to A royals followed by more rewarding gemstones that are green, blue and red in colour. The most lucrative symbol is the diamond giving you 50 times your stake for 6 of a kind. There's also a wild represented by a casino token that only appears on the extra reel.
LeoVegas Megaways (Blueprint Gaming): Features
As expected, LeoVegas Megaways comes with the usual Mystery Symbol. Look out for the lion paw - when it appears on the reels, all instances will be transformed to a random regular symbol. If they connect, it will more often than not be a lower value symbol.
The other symbol to look out for is the LeoVegas logo token - 4 or more of them anywhere on the main reel set will trigger the Free Spins feature. Before it's played, however, your starting setup is to be determined by the Bonus Wheel. On the wheel you will see an inner and outer ring, one that will reward between 5 to 15 free spins and one that will give you a starting win multiplier ranging from 1x to 10x. If you're lucky enough to trigger the bonus with additional scatters, the spins and multipliers on offer are increased.
Once your starting setup has been determined, the actual free spins round gets underway where each cascade win will increase your win multiplier by 1. If, for example, you get to start your round with 10 free spins and with a multiplier of 10x, your first winning combination will increase your win multiplier to 11x without ever reverting back. Scatter symbols can also appear in the extra reel above the main reel set to award additional free spins - 3 or 4 will give you 5 or 10 extra spins respectively.
If you don't feel like waiting, you can also buy your way into the free spins round with the help of the Bonus Buy feature, which also gives you a slightly higher 97% RTP. It comes with two options - one which will cost you 20 times your stake, offering between 3 and 10 free spins as well as a minimum ways to win, ranging from 324 to 117,649 (no win multiplier available during the round), and one that, for the price of 100 times your stake, will take you to the standard bonus wheel. Interestingly, Big Time Gaming who started the trend of buying bonuses, have stopped implementing it in their games altogether.
LeoVegas Megaways (Blueprint Gaming): Final Verdict
If you're already familiar with the concept, there's not much new to discover in LeoVegas Megaways. With that said, Blueprint always tries to come up with something new to keep things interesting, something they have been quite successful in doing. In this case, it's the Megaways Wheel. While the idea of determining your starting setup is an old one, the actual wheel is a rather striking addition nonetheless. Ultimately, however, it's just bells and whistles as the functionality is exactly the same as when you get to reveal it through the mystery choice as is the case in Temple of Treasure Megaways for example. In other words, it's merely a different visual presentation of the same functionality.
LeoVegas Megaways is a Megaways slot like any other which means there's really not much to say that hasn't been said already. With massive potential of up to 50,000 times your stake and built using the popular Megaways engine, you can't go wrong either way.
LeoVegas Megaways is a show-off slot that serves up plenty of palatable Megaways action.
